Midweek Update for September 25
What if you were asked to pack up your house and move? What if, without a safety net, you discovered that you had been asked to leave the place you’d known and travel to new place? Moving out into the unknown is never easy. Just ask Abraham and Sarah! But, if you dare to trust in God’s guidance, what you find in moving out of your comfort is that God will lead you home. God’s promise is as sure today as it ever was. Join us this Sunday to hear Rev. Beth Thomason lead us as we set out to go forth in faith.

Make sure you join us for worship this Sunday as we celebrate 145 years of ministry in Birmingham. We will enjoy worship together and a potluck meal afterward with many familiar faces. There will be people in attendance that you may not have seen in a while! It will be a day you don't want to miss!
For Homecoming (September 29), the FCC Choir is inviting all former choir members to join us in singing the anthem "Like a Dove" by John Purifoy. This one has been a longtime favorite of the choir. Just join us in the choir room on the 29th at 9:45. You won't have to put on a robe or sit in the choir loft the whole time: we will just have you come up when it is time for the anthem. FCC members, please tell your friends and family who may be attending.

Thanks!
John Allen Bankson
Art Varvoutis will be taking photos for the directory this Sunday after worship. If you did not have your picture made or did not have your entire family present for the last photo, please plan to have your photo taken.
Shaina and Joshua Berry officially became a family of five Friday, September 20th! They welcomed twins Cason William (6 lbs 14 oz) at 11:20 am and Sophie Faye (6 lbs 6 oz) at 11:22 am. Shaina and the babies are both doing great and Brynlee is thrilled to be a big sister!

Our thoughts and prayers are with our brothers and sisters who are dealing with the impact of Hurricane Dorian. Many of you have asked how you can help. Please consider donating to Week of Compassion, where 100% of your gifts designated for Hurricane Dorian will provide immediate relief and long-term rebuilding in the days, weeks, and years ahead. You can place your donation in the offering plate or make a contribution online at fcc-bhm.org/give. Please make all checks payable to FCC and designate Week of Compassion — Hurricane Relief.
The Mission Council needs everyone’s help to build consensus in creating a vision for the next chapter of ministry for First Christian Church. Lesleigh Carmichael of Ministry Architects will walk us through an interactive brainstorming session to lay the groundwork for creating a shared Mission Statement, Core Values, and 3-Year Goals.

Come be a part of setting a vision for our next chapter of ministry Saturday, October 5 from 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. in the church gym. All are welcome and encouraged to participate in this worthwhile effort. You don't have to be a member to share your ideas.

To ensure your voice is heard and you are prepared for our brainstorming session, we are asking everyone to fill out the Pre-Vision Summit Homework Sheet before the meeting. You can access it by clicking here to print it, or pick up a copy from the gathering area at church. You may submit it one of the following ways:
  • Bring your completed copy with you to the brainstorming session at 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 5.
  • If you cannot attend the session on October 5th, please drop the attached homework in the box  on the table in the gathering area any Sunday before October 5 or bring it to the church office by Thursday, October 3rd to ensure your thoughts are included in the brainstorming session.

Please email Dixon or call the church office at 205-991-5000 to RSVP your attendance Saturday, October 5th at 9:00 a.m.  We really hope you will take time to join us!

Blessings,
FCC Mission Council
