We often make ourselves promises we don’t end up keeping. Like remembering the decision to eat healthy at the very moment we realize the fluffy delicious substance rolling around in our mouths is in fact cake.
Or when we decide to simplify our spending and pay off our debt and then find ourselves pushing a shopping cart filled with unessential’s down a department store aisle.
Or the moments we commit to spending our time with the people who grow us, the women who uplift and encourage and the men who honor and nurture and then find ourselves leaving the table with two empty wine glasses and that same sense of having circled the drain…again.
Perhaps the most significant contradiction we must live is our need for safety and security along with our desire for freedom and autonomy. To a large degree, our contradictions cannot be overcome. They are the forces of opposition which can only be recognized and consciously negotiated within our own psyches.
