Columbus Quarry Recognized with
Sentinels of Safety Award
Columbus Quarry was honored by the National Mining Association with the Sentinels of Safety Award. This award recognizes mining operations for working the most hours in a calendar year without a single lost time injury.
With over 4,000 stone mines in the U.S., Columbus Quarry was one of 14 mines (small group) recognized for this award. This award acknowledges Columbus Quarry’s outstanding accomplishments in safety.
The prestigious award was initiated in 1925 by then Secretary Herbert Hoover.
“Safety is the prism through which our industry views every issue,” says Hal Quinn, NMA president and CEO, in a press release. “Whether a company is opening a new mine, has a longstanding operation, or is incorporating new technologies, today’s mining industry leaders are always exploring ways to keep miners safe today, and improve for tomorrow. Through these awards, we acknowledge outstanding accomplishments in safety and hope that these companies’ achievements can serve as a model for others in industry.”
