Movement in Home Care Packages

The DoH released the latest quarterly Home Care Packages Program Data Report on Wednesday 18 Sep 2019.

The report shows the latest movement in numbers of packages, which is graphed below. The spectacular growth in numbers of Level 3 and Level 4 packages is the highlight.

Pension and Fee Information to assist with My Aged Care Fee Estimator Calculations (as at 20 Sep 2019)

- Maximum amount you can earn without affecting pension - $174/fn
- Lower deeming rate - 1.00% p.a
- Higher deeming rate - 3.00% p.a
- Deeming threshold (single) - $51,800
- Deeming threshold (couple - combined) - $86,200
- Annual Single Pension (including supplements) - $24,268.40
- Lower asset threshold (fully supported) - $49,500
- Upper asset threshold (partially supported) - $169,079.20
- Asset test for MTCF for residential aged care is:
1% p.a. between $169,079.20 and $408,237.60 +
2% p.a between $408,238.60 and above
- BDF Home Care Level 1 - $9.52
Level 2 - $10.07
Level 3 - $10.35
Level 4 - $10.63
- BDF Residential Care - $51.63
- Amount left over from maximum single pension after paying residential aged care Basic Daily Fee (BDF) - $210.58/fn or $15.04/day, as below:

Daily Fees for Vacated Room - Residential Aged Care

We often receive queries regarding what is the common practice for the charging of basic daily fees for days prior to a family vacating a room of personal belongings upon the death or departure of a resident. What fees, if any, are charged? And to whom are they charged? What is to be written in the Resident Agreement or Rules of Residency?

We see that there is a wide variety of arrangements in the sector.

Home Care Services Travel Costs for Couples

It is reasonable to expect that when both members of a couple are receiving home care package services at the same time and address - by the same support worker - that only one set of travel costs will be charged.

JU&A home care package agreements have an attachment where the special conditions for client eligibility for the 'single' or 'couple' rate of travel costs can be included. Please ask for a copy if you have the two rates (or discounts).
