Year 10 Work Experience 2020
Dear Parent/Carer

All Year 10 students will take part in a work experience placement from Monday 29 June to Friday 03 July 2020.  This will be a compulsory activity that will allow students to experience the world of work and develop their employability skills.

Taking part in Work Experience is vital, as almost all employers state that they will only consider someone for an interview if they can demonstrate that they have work place experience. It will not only give them valuable employability skills but it will also give them necessary insight into the world of work as well as enhance their CV, which they will be completing in Year 11.

Students have been given access to a website containing thousands of companies across the city who have previously offered Work Experience. There are many areas of business for them to search through and everyone should find something that suits their skills.

Once they have identified where they would like to go they then need to contact the employer and ask them for a placement. Support on how to do this is being delivered by their tutor and in addition, I am arranging daily drop in sessions before, during and after school.

Another way that they can find a placement is through their own contacts. If you have a family business or know someone that is happy to support a work placement, simply let us have the details and we will arrange for the necessary checks to be carried out.

We are required to carry out health and safety checks and in some cases a criminal record check.  This can take months, which is why all students have until the end of October to confirm where they will be going.

The school will fund the cost for all necessary checks to be carried out to ensure that your child is safe throughout the week. Please note that once a placement has been confirmed and booked, should a student cancel then as their parent/carer you will incur the £50 fee already paid by the school.

This is a very exciting time for students as they start to prepare for the world of work and I am sure that you will help and support them in discovering their career path.

Should you at any time wish to discuss matters concerning Work Experience please do not hesitate to contact me at the College on 01752 201020 ext 450 or s.newberry@sjhcsc.co.uk.

Yours faithfully
