If you would like to help yourself, your friends and family, and your neighbors prepare for a disaster, consider taking the Portland Bureau of Emergency Management (PBEM) Neighborhood Emergency Team (NET) Training in South Waterfront.
Take this free training and learn about disaster preparedness, fire safety, disaster medical operations, search and rescue, how to use a FRS (Family Radio Service) radio, disaster psychology, and how to respond to a terrorist attack.
A training will be held on October 16, 23, 30, and November 6, 2019, in the Mirabella's Willamette Hall, 3550 SW Bond Ave., Portland, OR, from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. each day. On a date to be arranged, there will also be a concluding half day field exercise at Portland Fire and Rescue training grounds, 4800 NE 122nd Ave., Portland.
In order to sign up for the training, visit www.portlandoregon.gov/net and scroll down to "How do I become a NET member?" and follow the steps. Front Porch Lecture Series: Analyzing Iranian Media After U.S. Withdrawal from the Nuclear Deal
How have Iran's domestic politics been impacted by the U.S. withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in May 2018? Drawing on Iranian media coverage and public statements by Iranian government officials, in this presentation Dr. Robert Asaadi—professor in the Departments of Political Science and International Studies at Portland State University—will analyze the ways in which the U.S. withdrawal from the JCPOA and the increasing tensions between the U.S. and Iran have shifted the balance of power in Iran’s domestic politics.
The talk will be followed by a happy hour allowing guests to engage with their neighbors. This event is open to all South Waterfront residents.
