The event commemorates the 150th anniversary of H.J. Heinz Company and will include special programs, updates to the museum's Heinz Exhibition and collections, new publications, exclusive merchandise, and more.

You can help kick-off the festivities with a Heinz 21+ Night this Thursday, October 3. Celebrate the history of Heinz with an evening full of pickle and ketchup history, a tasty hot dog bar from Franktuary, and delicious craft cocktails courtesy of Wigle Whiskey. Plus, make ketchup-flavored lip balm and test your Heinz knowledge with a blindfolded taste test. Learn more.

As part of Heinztoberfest, a special edition of the eighth-annual Hometown-Homegrown food festival will take place in partnership with GoodTaste! Pittsburgh on Saturday, October 19. Enjoy Heinz-inspired food samples, cooking demonstrations, special giveaways, and other Heinz related surprises.

YOUTHPLACES COMES DOWNTOWN

YouthPlaces is bringing a new innovation hub for students in Downtown, and you can help support the build-out. Read more about the program in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and learn how you can donate here

Over the past several years, the increase in students attending (and transitioning between) schools in the Downtown Pittsburgh area has increased to over 3,000 between the hours of 2:00 – 5:00 p.m., resulting in heavily populated areas with no standard transition services offered to mitigate volume.

Through establishing a presence in Downtown Pittsburgh, YouthPlaces will support current efforts to effectively transition youth from local area high schools to neighborhood-based after school programs and workforce development/readiness opportunities.

HAUNTED PITTSBURGH WALKING TOURS

Get ready for a "spooktacular" tour of Pittsburgh’s haunted history, with Haunted Pittsburgh Walking Tours.

Running Fridays and Saturdays in Downtown, you'll hear true stories of the city's haunted past expertly told in the style of old-fashioned ghost stories over the course of the 90-minute tour.

Listen to the stories of a great American city told through its greatest tales of the macabre, which features stops at the Old Allegheny County Jail and the Allegheny County Courthouse, and more.

"This isn’t a tacky tourist trap or a collection of generic urban legends. This walking tour dives deep into Pittsburgh history to unearth forgotten tales, all featuring a good scare or two. Prepare to learn a few juicy Steel City secrets." - Pittsburgh Magazine

Coneman Tip of the Week: Port Authority to Consolidate Bus Stops Along 16 and 51 Bus Lines After November 24

Following the release of their Bus Stop and Street Design Guidelines this past July, Port Authority has announced that they are beginning to examine the overall system and reduce the number of stops to strive to improve on-time performance, offer riders a better transit experience, and increase reliability.

With over 7,000 bus stops systemwide, serving every stop makes it more challenging for everyone, and when buses aren’t on time, bus drivers are stressed, riders become frustrated or even worse, are late for work or school. Ultimately, the goal of these consolidations is to still ensure that bus stops will be located near key intersections, major activity centers, and areas to accommodate people with disabilities.

Currently, Port Authority is reviewing two bus lines which will experience bus stop consolidations after November 24, 2019: the 16 (Brighton) and the 51 (Carrick). Before the proposed changes become final, the Port Authority wants to hear rider’s input and there are two ways you can provide comments (note: make sure to include the stop identification number, name of street the bus stop is located on, the nearest intersection and the reason for your comment):
