CCLSWA September 2019 Newsletter
This month was conference season! We prioritise staff training and expertise and always invest in opportunities to attend national conferences. This year attending the National Association of Community Legal Centres  Conference in Brisbane was extra special as we all had the opportunity to speak.  Roberta Grealish (Senior Solicitor), Georgina Molloy (Solicitor) and Allison Sampson (Office Manager and CLE Coordinator) ran an all-day Masterclass on Consumer Credit Law.  Also, our Managing Solicitor Gemma Mitchell presented on the insightful topic of 'Power to the People: Consumer Law Rights' alongside Josh Mennen from Maurice Blackburn Lawyers, Gerard Brody & Catherine Miler from Consumer Action Law Centre and Alexandra Kelly from Financial Rights Legal Centre

Gemma and Georgia then flew to the Gold Coast for the annual Credit Law Conference.  These are a couple of the social media posts we published at the event that sums up our experience perfectly.  On the left, the hilarious ABC video from Sammy J on Banking Yoga.  On the right, Consumer Action Law Centre's Amanda Storey nails the panel discussion on mortgage brokers & best interests duties - industry tries to argue brokers are unfairly targeted. Reminds us of this fabulous Dan Ziffer quote '#notallmortgagebrokers'. They also enjoyed hearing from our friends at AFCA  about their new fairness frameworks.
Come join us! On Thursday the 17th of October we have been invited by the City of Bayswater along with Galleria Shopping Centre to take part in their Anti-Poverty Week program.  We will be playing our unique games to teach their local community on how to avoid bad credit products.  Please book in as spaces are limited.  Register at: Galleria Customer Service.
Thursday, 17 October, 5.00pm - 7.00pm, Galleria Shopping Centre
Collier Rd & Walter Rd W, Morley WA 6062
In next month's newsletter, we will be launching our Annual Report, after our AGM on the 9th of October.
