Hi everyone

Wow it was a hectic school holidays with three National Championship events over the two weeks! Thanks for your support of these events, we hope you all enjoyed them as much as we did! Keep on reading for event wrap ups and the 2020 calendar announcement...
SOUTHERN TOUR AND NORTHERN TOUR WRAP UP

Saint Kentigern College’s Ruby Spring made an impressive start to the school road cycling season, claiming both the Southern Tour and Northern Tour under-15 girls road titles over consecutive weekends.

The Southern Tour, organised by Cycling Marlborough and presented by Cuddon Engineering and the Northern Tour, organised by Cycling New Zealand and presented by ICON, a division of BJ Ball saw 600 riders take part across the two events! Both events included an individual time trial, hill climb and criterium, with the Southern Tour having an additional road race.

NATIONAL ROAD CHAMPIONSHIPS WRAP UP

Nearly 600 riders from 84 schools flocked to the Manawatu for the 52nd edition of the National School Road Cycling Championships. The event returned to its base in the Manawatu region after venturing to the South Island for the first time last year. The three day event started with the team time trial on a new course from Colyton School. Baradene College took out the Senior Title for the first time, while Christchurch Boys High successfully defended their title in the narrowest of margins from Cambridge High School in the Senior Boys category to take home the Sir Bernard Ferguson trophy for the second year.  This was followed by the Road Race and Points Race, which saw some impressive performances in challenging conditions . Top School honours went to Baradene College, Cambridge High School, Palmerston North Intermediate Normal School and Remuera Intermediate. NATIONAL MTB CHAMPIONSHIPS WRAP UP
The National School MTB Championships is fast becoming a flag ship event for schools cycling with enormous growth in participation over the last few years.  Hosted by Mountain Biking Otago who have a long and successful tenure in schools cycling, this event offered three codes across three days, with the first ever National Schools Enduro Championships, a sold out Downhill and a competitive Cross Country event. NATIONAL TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS WRAP UP
Invercargill’s Emily Paterson made the most of the opportunity to race on her home track at the Cycling New Zealand Schools National Track Championships, claiming the under-20 girls crown at the SIT Zero Fees Velodrome, while the Top School honours went to Cambridge High School for the second year running. The event attracted over 150 riders from 46 schools and incorporated the South Island Schools Championship. Read more here.
Emily Paterson claims the U20 girls crown at the National School Track Championships by winning the Keirin and Scratch Races and placing 3rd in the Points Race.

2020 EVENT DATES ANNOUNCED

Cycling New Zealand Schools today announced the full calendar of 2020 cycling events.  These 11 events are sanctioned by School Sport NZ and Cycling New Zealand.

Cycling New Zealand Schools Chairman Brynn Gilbertson is delighted to see the continuation of the strong schools calendar and the continued growth particularly in Mountain Biking.  

“Schools cycling has shown incredible growth over the past few years so it’s fantastic that we have clubs and organisers putting their hand up to host these events.”

COACHING AND DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES
TISSOT UCI TRACK CYCLING WORLD CUP

If you were at the National School Road Champs in Feilding you would have seen this car going round and round the track at Manfeild!

That's right, New Zealand is hosting the Tissot UCI Track Cycling World Cup right here in Cambridge, 6-8 December this year!
