PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO THE HOGG MIDDLE SCHOOL PTA BY-LAWS

On October 11, 2019, we announced a proposed amendment to one paragraph of our PTA By-Laws. The relevant paragraph is under Article V Membership and Dues, Section 2. The paragraph currently reads as follows:

Section 2. Dues

  1. Annual dues for each member shall be two dollars and fifty cents ($2.50) for the local portion of dues plus state dues as determined by Texas PTA and national dues as determined by National PTA.

The proposed amendment would change Section 2 of Article V Membership and Dues.  The new paragraph would read as follows:

Section 2. Dues

  1. Annual dues for each member shall be five dollars and fifty cents ($5.50) for the local portion of dues plus state dues as determined by Texas PTA and national dues as determined by National PTA.

We will also vote to approve our Standing Rules, which you can access here.

These amendments will be voted on at the November 19, 2019 PTA membership meeting. Please note, while all are welcome to attend, non-members may not speak or vote per TX PTA rules.

4th Annual Razorback Campout October 18 - 20

Overnight camping is full but, not to worry. We have no limit to the number of day-trippers that can join us on Saturday, October 19th. Take the day away from the city and join us in the forest for a fun-filled day outside. There is plenty to do: bike, hike, swim, visit with old friends and make some new ones, too. To top off the day we will have a Group Potluck at 4pm. The Campout takes place at the Double Lake Recreation Area in Coldspring, TX, just one-hour north of Houston. To register as a Day-Tripper go to https://www.hoggpta.org/store/campout and scroll down on that page for the form.

Hometown: Houston, Texas

Years in Houston: My whole life, except for 7 months in San Marcos, TX

Children:  two children, Alec in 9th grade and Marissa in 6th

Reason for serving on the PTA: I decided to chair the Hogg Campout this year because we have truly enjoyed the Campout every year. The kids love to get outside with friends to spend the days out of the house. We have met new families and spent time with olds friends, too. I love that I can carry on our new tradition.

Fun Fact: I love polka dots and never wear them.

What are you most excited about the 4th Annual Razorback Campout? Everything! It really is a great time.

Calling volunteers ... do you have an hour to write thank you cards?  We need help writing thank you cards to our generous sponsors and vendors.  Please contact Cheryl at volunteer@hoggpta.org to volunteer your time. This is a perfect job for those who can only volunteer in the evenings or weekends (Cards can be written by you on your own time at home).  Thank you!

Razorback Community,

As you may remember, representatives from Learn Local and your PTA met with HISD to discuss the air conditioning  and communication challenges Hogg MS faced during its first week of school.  During our meeting, HISD representatives agreed to research our concerns.   Since our meeting approximately 2 weeks ago, HISD has begun a formal assessment of Hogg's facilities, including but not limited to Hogg's HVAC system, Hogg's roof (which experienced some leaks during Imelda), and the lighting (electrical) issues in the Hogg auditorium.  Throughout the next few weeks, various HISD repairmen will provide recommended plans and begin scheduling work in those areas which it identifies as needing improvement or replacement.  We believe HISD is working effectively to support Principal Saldana and our community to address our concerns.  Learn Local and PTA will meet with Principal Saldana in the next few weeks to evaluate the status of HISD's progress.  We will continue to provide updates on the facility improvements as they are performed.
