About Our 2019 Turkey Options
Our first and most beloved choice will always be our dear friend, Bill Niman’s, most incredible locally raised truly pasture-raised, humane heritage birds.

However, these are simply not yet available fresh this year since he’s only resumed operations under his new Bill Niman Farms program recently. We have been fortunate enough to source from Bills’ supply of frozen stored product weekly – and fully enjoying his high quality FROZEN “past season” whole birds in our products consistently and will continue to do so well into 2020 – yes, we are already planning with him for the 2020 season. Really exciting!

I decided to drop the usual “range-free” or typical certified organic birds this year because we simply have such better options now available at a great price point. I decided this was the year to make the decision to offer exclusively products from those producers that have made the shift to dedicate and elevate their programs to whole new category of how turkey is being raised in the US.

What’s FRESH? For this year’s season, from a variety of outstanding available options, we chose to source: FRESH Organic Heritage Spanish Black Turkey from Joyce Farms in North Carolina. This is the first time Joyce Farms will be offering their birds to west coast chefs and restaurants – and those few very lucky SFRAW members that get an order in before they sell out.
Joyce Farms Organic Heritage Spanish Black Turkeys FRESH
- $10/lb VERY limited availability
- three weight classes available: small (10-12 lbs), medium (12-14 lbs), or large (14-16 lbs)

Joyce Farms is a leader of sustainable and regenerative farming in North Carolina. We've decided to partner with them because of their commitment to heritage genetics, regenerative practices, and vertical integration. They prove year-over-year that they are one of the best producers of heritage breeds in the nation, and when given the opportunity, we always prefer to work with farmers and producers that manage their own slaughter like Joyce Farms. Their Spanish Black Heritage Turkeys are raised on pasture their entire life and grow slowly over 24 weeks. These pasture-raised heritage birds are direct descendants of wild turkeys and therefore grow much slower, develop much more flavor, have a body composition that would allow the bird to survive in the wild, and fly whereas the typical Broad Breasted varietals cannot. These air-chilled heritage turkeys are a real treat for those who love to eat and are driven by a pursuit of flavor.

There is limited availability of these Turkeys, so please place your orders ASAP please! We WILL sell out!

We’re very pleased to entrust our 2019 Thanksgiving fresh turkey selection to their high standards for quality and integrity through Joyce Farms’ regenerative organic heritage bird program.
Local, Organic and Heritage Pasture-Raised
FROZEN Turkey Options
from Bill Niman, the (visionary) man himself!

Our Bill Niman Farm turkey selections include two products this year: Whole Toms (GIANT BIRDS!) and bnls/sknls Tenders (breasts - -which you can roll & tie for an impressive centerpiece - put together as many as you need for just the right size!)

The quality & the price is why we’ve decided to offer these products an alternative option this year to the FRESH Joyce birds. Plus, right now, we have plenty of the whole birds available, and so long as you let us know your needs in advance, we can get you these wonderful turkeys starting next week through the end of 2019 (Nov 13th through Dec 23rd or after Jan 2nd).

Bill Niman Farm Turkey Tenders Bnls/Sknls
3-4 lb pack sizes $3.31/lb
- Frozen, past season, local, heritage

Bill Niman Farm Whole Broad-Breasted Heritage Turkeys minimum 20-lbs or larger each $3.50/lb
- Very Special Member Pricing
- Toms: 20-lbs or larger in size only (plenty available)
- Frozen, past season, local, heritage

Yes, these are the “GOOD ONES“!
Totally awesome locally raised heritage “broad breasted” whole turkeys from Bill Niman Farm in Bolinas, CA. While these birds live completely natural, humane, stress-free, unconfined, sweet lives – able to express and enjoy all the very same behaviors and environment as wild turkeys, they are not composed of primarily the darker meat found in other heritage birds. While a heritage type of bird, these are “BROAD BREASTED” with more of the leaner, white meat than fattier dark meat.

While frozen from past seasons, these are still totally fabulous when it comes to quality, but please understand that these are NOT fresh nor from the current 2018/2019 season. We still see this as a screaming deal because 1) IF you could even get them (which you cannot) FRESH from the current season…then 2) they would be at least 3 times the price and very hard to get our hands on. Truth is, you can’t even get these actual birds anymore in the marketplace – so…..there’s that cool special aspect, right? These are, indeed, rare birds - lucky you! 😉 Yep, these are the very birds that we use in SFRAW Grinds & Formulas and they are absolutely FANTASTIC! Zero quality issues - Enjoy!

!! REMINDER !!
Thankfully most of our members (and employees) now have power restored in their homes and are not currently at risk from the recent fires. Because we continued to have power, were able to support those impacted during the crisis by storing product longer than expected for them to pickup by part or later and accept late orders, as needed.  Yes, our freezer was bursting with orders/over-full pushed to the brink, but this was important to us - it was what we could do during a difficult time.

As of this past weekend, we returned to our normal order/pickup schedule:

weekly order cut-off day/time is *by/before* 9am Monday
for order pickups available starting *on/after* Friday 5pm

$25 Rush/Late Fee
Should you happen to miss the Monday 9am deadline to place an order, and depending on what your needs are vs availability, we can sometimes accommodate late/rush orders. We will do our best!

7-Day Grace Period + $15 Storage Fee
Sometimes you might need to miss your order pick-up date for whatever reason. Hey, no worries! If you need another few days/up to a week - we're happy to store your order here for you as part of your membership (free).  For longer than 7 days after your originally scheduled pickup date, just let us know and we can continue to store it safely for you in our freezer with a $15/week storage fee (due open pickup).
We very much appreciate your adherence to our normal and standard weekly ordering schedule. These deadlines and requirements have been established so that we can do our jobs to better provide just what you need in a timely manner.

Thankfully, we now maintain a nice, wide variety of products in stock and available on a drop-in basis!  If you miss a deadline to order, please feel free to drop in to shop for products in stock and available 7-days/week. If we're out of the product that you seek, we almost *always* have a solution/substitutions available that will work - frequently this is a cool opportunity to try new things and expand your variety!

About this episode:

"The art of healing comes from nature, not from the physician. Therefore the physician must start from nature, with an open mind.” Paracelsus

Kasie Maxwell has been on a journey of healing since she was a young girl. Her connection with animals and their well-being has guided her practices along the way, as well as her own path towards finding answers to a devastating disease that struck her life suddenly, causing her to realign with her purpose and tenaciously find a way to keep going.

SOURCING IS KEY: WHAT MAKES SFRAW FOODS SO DIFFERENT & MORE NUTRITIOUS? IT STARTS WITH OUR INCREDIBLE PRODUCERS! WE USE WILD FORAGING CHICKENS (BEYOND PASTURE-RAISED)
DID YOU KNOW? Domesticated chickens of today are a subspecies of the red jungle fowl. It’s written into the DNA of chickens to flourish in the lush, wild flora of forests, with diverse tall grasses & jungles. The soil and plants are richer in minerals, and provide natural powerful sources of nutrients not available or present in commercially available feed. The soil/flora microorganism/bacterial matrix and diversity of beneficial microbes found in these ecosystem directly impact the health of the animals foraging here...including these wild foraging chickens! This very special Northwest Arkansas farm provides ample forests, grasses, streams and space for their birds; a natural environment with plenty of shade for the summer heat. This translates into the most nutritious and healthiest, best tasting, next level proteins that you can possibly find...and this is the type of producer we're honored to support, and partner with @sfraw. Simply put, animals raised in this regenerative manner are creating an entirely NEW CATEGORY of food: distinctly unique, truly ethical, ecologically restorative, delicious, safe, next-level sustainable, and incredibly nutritious. The nutrient density/nutritional profiles are influenced by the season and ecology of the lands on which they forage. They are far superior, nutritionally, to large scale organic or conventionally raised meat/poultry. While more research needs to take place regarding this aspect, it is undeniably true...we recognize and confirm this DAILY when we witness the dramatic differences in the vitality and health of those consuming and thriving on our foods compared to other raw foods...there's just no comparison! @sfraw
