NYPD hears community & local businesses concerns at Build the Block event

On Monday, September 9th over 50 community members and business owners gathered together to share their concerns with leaders from the Queens 105th Precinct  NYPD.

Neighborhood Coordination Officers (NCO) Kurt Benjamin and Luis Benzant were joined by 7 other officers from the precinct to introduce themselves to the community and answer questions about how policing is practiced in the neighborhood. New York City Councilmember Donovan Richards kicked off the event by discussing the City's Neighborhood Policing program and a plan for the city to increase response times to 911 calls by creating a new precinct that that will only serve the Rosedale, Cambria Heights, Springfield Gardens and Laurelton communities.

The meeting was held in a town hall format where attendees asked questions directly to the officers. Neighborhood concerns included operating illegal businesses, illegal dumping, traffic concerns, loitering, abandoned vehicles, lighting needs in commercial areas, and a lack of community facilities to engage youth.  GatewayJFK will continue to work on addressing these issues with the NYPD and will work to help the precinct and other government agencies plan for both policing efforts and long term solutions.

If you would like to report a non-emergency issue that GatewayJFK can work with the NYPD to solve please visit our website at gatewayjfk.org and report it using our Quality of Life online form. The tool helps track the problems in the community and improve response times from government agencies.
