Knowing our history and community voice; strengthening writing and analytical skills; connecting with community via individual or class projects; receiving great mentorship and resources for graduate school--we got it all! Hard to get to Scott Hall? No problem--we also have a Google Hangout Option!

As a student declared in the Chicano & Latino Studies major, you will be eligible to apply for one of the upcoming department scholarships. Scholarships range from $500-700 and applications will be due in December. Updated information will be listed on the website soon and you will be sent details in the next couple weeks, so watch your email!
Chicano and Latino Studies core and affiliated faculty well represented nationally speaking and presenting workshops, platicas and roundtables.
Many of our departmental faculty and affiliated faculty will be presenting or chairing sessions at the ASA-American Studies Association Annual Meeting being held this week! The theme for the 2019 annual meeting – “Build As We Fight” – seeks to create space for the multiplicity of political critiques, imaginaries, and actions created by Indigenous peoples and communities of color in response to the threats of authoritarianism, genocide, dispossession, and extractive capitalism.
Also outside of the University of Minnestoa this week is Dr Davalos, who presents at Michigan State University in East Lansing. Her talk is entitiled, "Spectacular Brownness: the 21st CEntury ARt of Linda Vallejo". Additionally, she will speak to a Digital humanities class about Rhizomes of MExican American Art since 1848.

Dia de los Muertos 2019
Once again, Chicano and Latino Studies and La Raza Latinx Student Cultural Center collaborated to share this beautiful DDLM celebration to the University of MN TC campus. Other collaborators included the Latino International Student Organization (LISA), The Philipine Student Association and the American Indian Cultural Center. Thank you to everyone who contributed, educated, attended and supported!

BIPOC Healing Art Series
The BIPOC Healing Art Series creates community healing spaces for graduate and undergraduate students to experience wellness through movement and art. This is a space for Black,Indigenous, Latinx, Middle Eastern and North African (MENA), Desi, Asian, and/or People of Color voices, experiences, and stories. Mixed race, QTIPOC, and trans-racial adopted folks, we see you and welcome you into the space.
The Artist Neighborhood Partnership Initiative (ANPI) provides small grants to artists of color and Native artists working in neighborhoods in Minneapolis, St. Paul and the surrounding suburbs. ANPI is a program of theCenter for Urban and Regional Affairs (CURA). They are accepting applications until December 22.
As always, there is so much to share in Career Corner. Hats off to all the work of the CLA Career Center in supporting students to connect time here at the U of MN with current and future career ideas, hopes and dreams.
CLA Career Exploration Days: November 11-14 This is a four-day event where current first-year students visit CLA Career Serivces for a fun and informative fifteen-minute tour of the office.

Practice Interview Days November 19-22, 2019. Practice answering common interview questions and receive helpful feedback from professionals with experience.
Exploring Graduate School. Of course, talk with any of our professors and instructors about the overlap of Graduate school and CLS and/or identity and self as a graduate student!
Exchange to another school in the U.S., Canada, Guam, Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands for a summer, semester, or year. There are 165 campuses to choose from, including HSIs (Hispanic Serving Institutions) in the US, Puerto Rico and Mexico.
Most students pay U of M tuition, receive financial aid, and NSE credits easily transfer back to the U of M. Final applications due Feb. 2020.
