Join us in our Annual Dia de los Muertos Celebration

Altares, procession, danzantes, food y convivio.


NEXT FRIDAY NOVEMBER 1ST.  We begin at Scott Hall at 2pm with danzantes from Kalpulli Ketzal Cuatlique, who will open the ceremony followed by a presentation of the altar by students in Chicano and Latino Studies First Year Seminar class.  We'll then follow the danzantes in procession to Coffman and La Raza Student Cultural Center as homebase for the rest of the afternoon.

Chicano and Latino Studies and You!

Students-There are two opportunities left in fall term to connect y platicar con Dr. Karen Mary Davalos, chair of the Department of Chicano and Latino Students, regarding how our classes, a major or minor in the department can support your goals--be they academic, professional or personal.  Knowing our history and community voice; strengthening writing and analytical skills; connecting with community via individual or class projects; receiving great mentorship and resources  for graduate school--we got it all! Advisors and anyone else interested in the topic invited as well!

Día de Los Muertos Altar Making at La Raza Latinx Student Cultural Center

Monday, October 28th Come to...

10 am - 5pm
to make sugar skulls and paper flower decorations

From 5 pm - 7pm
we will be making the Altar

Those who have passed from border violence and the victims of El Paso shooting 

If you have or know of someone who has passed because of border violence and feel comfortable please bring a photo or symbol of that person in to include in the altar

JUNIORS & SENIORS INTERESTED IN GRAD SCHOOL!

 The McNair Scholars' 10 week Summer Program gives undergraduate students intensive, faculty-driven research experiences and prepare students for entry into and success in graduate school.  The application window is now open through Jan. 21 2020  for this program which includes a stipend of $3,500.00.

Oye Gente--we are finally at the beautiful time of year where we remember, visit, tell tales, sing, honor and hang out with our relatives, friends, mentors, and others--those physically present and those who have gone before us.  We hope this is a beautiful time for you and yours.  Below are some links to various community programs, events and opportunities related to Dia de los Muertos in the Twin Cities.

The Phillips Neighborhood Clinic is currently recruiting Community Advisory Board Members

The Phillips Neighborhood Clinic (PNC) is a free clinic staffed by University of Minnesota health profession students that aims to promote the health of our community. PNC values and relies on the perspectives of people who live, work, and in Phillips and surrounding neighborhoods to make sure our clinic is meeting community needs and priorities.

CLUES (both MPLS and St. Paul locations) is looking for tutors to work with children ages 3-5 while their parents attend classes at CLUES.        M-F 10am-12:30pm

The Center for Academic Planning & Exploration (CAPE) is hosting an interactive afternoon designed to help you explore majors by learning how your interests and values apply to majors at the U. Space is limited, so sign up today! z.umn.edu/majorscare
 
Who: Any U of M student who is exploring majors
When: Friday, November 1st, 12:30 - 4:30pm
Where: Bruininks Hall, Room 530B
What: Half-day major exploration workshop, includes interest assessment and LUNCH!

Also on Friday Nov. 1st!--Government and Nonprofit Career Fair in the Great Hall at Coffman from 10am-3pm.
