Saturday October 19 - Bowood FarmsPumpkin Watercolor Study10a – 12p. Artist and gardener, Amy Woods will lead this watercolor workshop using fall pumpkins, squash and gourds for inspiration. You will learn to work from the actual subject, rather than photos, to create loose and unique paintings. Get to know your palette and explore what makes painting with watercolor unique. All materials and supplies are provided, and you’ll go home with your own palette and paintbrush to continue your practice. All skill levels are welcome. Workshop is limited to 12 participants. $60. 

Saturday, October 19 - Bowood FarmsBeginners Basket Weaving Workshop 1p – 4p - Learn the art of basket weaving in this introductory workshop with basket weaver Francie Null. Francie will teach you how to twill weave reeds together to create a small basket perfect for trinkets or a small plant. The small workshop size will allow for lots of one-on-one guidance and instruction. Previous basket weaving experience would be helpful, but not required. Since this is a longer workshop, Cafe Osage will provide baked goods for a snack. Workshop is limited to 6 people. $45

You are encouraged to bring your own knife, but we will provide knives to use as well. Workshop is limited to 8 participants. $45 

Thursday, October 24 Left Bank Books presents award-winning author Kekla Magoon, who will sign and discuss her new young adult novel, Light It Up (Henry Holt and Co. (BYR), October 2019) on Thursday, October 24, 7:00 p.m. at Left Bank Books (399 N. Euclid) in conversation with Lauron Thompson-Cosby, Cofounder and Artistic Director of TLT Productions. Friday, October 25 - Bowood Farms Modern Calligraphy  10a – 1p - Learn the art of calligraphy with a modern twist! Professional Calligrapher, Katherine Yabes, of Handwritten by Katherine will expertly guide you through an introduction to calligraphy. Learn all the basic lettering techniques, get comfortable using a pointed pen and ink, and practice joining letters and forming words and phrases. Take home the pen, nib, ink, and worksheets to continue your practice at home. Since this is a longer workshop, Cafe Osage will provide baked goods for a snack. Larysa grows and forages flowers on her small-scale farm to create romantic arrangements with layers of colors and textures. Through this hands-on class you will learn how to create your own beautiful centerpiece with tips from Larysa. The stunning arrangement you create, along with the vessel are yours to take home. Saturday, October 26 - Bowood Farms - Botanical Plaster Prints Workshop - 2-4p - Create a series of three nature-inspired plaster prints with our guidance. We will use flowers, foliage and twigs to leave impressions on clay, followed by a pour of plaster. The resulting casts capture the delicate details of the botanicals.  All materials and supplies are provided, and you’ll go home with a trio of prints. Workshop is limited to 12 participants. $45

Sunday, October 27 - Bowood FarmsLunar Gardening 101 - 3-4p - Demystify the ancient agricultural art of lunar gardening in this class taught by Drew Dinges. Drew will walk attendees through a gardening to-do-list exploring how to work in tandem with the moon’s phases and astrological correspondences. He will discuss how to use a moon calendar to decide the best dates to sow seeds, when to harvest and plant certain crops, and also how to determine the best time to prune and fertilize. Explore the essential components of creating your own moon garden, just in time for October’s full moon. $10 

Sunday, October 27 - Organist Michael Unger performs a recital on Sunday, October 27 at 4:00 p.m. at Second Presbyterian Church. Dr. Unger is the Assistant Professor of Organ and Harpsichord at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. The church is located at 4501 Westminster Place in the Central West End, St. Louis, 63108. Saturday, November 2 - Bowood FarmsSashiko Embroidery 10a – 1p - Sashiko embroidery originated in Japanese textile arts, in which decorative straight stitch patterns were used to mend and reinforce homespun fabrics. Despite its traditional roots, the abstract motifs typical of this meditative hand-stitching technique lend themselves perfectly to modern design. In this workshop, Casey will introduce sashiko materials and the basic stitch and you will embellish a fabric square. All materials and supplies are provided, and you’ll go home with your project, sashiko needle and thread. Since this is a longer workshop, Cafe Osage will provide baked goods for a snack. Workshop is limited to 10 participants. $60.

Wednesday, November 6 - Gamlin Whiskey House - Women & Whiskey - On the first Wednesday of every month, raise a glass with us and your fellow women who whiskey! November’s dinner will be hosted by Benay Shannon of the Kansas City-based Restless Spirits Distilling. Cathedral Concerts announces their 2019 - 2020 season - Saint Louis Cathedral Concerts, an independent nonprofit that brings sacred and classical music to St. Louis from world-class musicians, releases its concert lineup for the 27th season. The 2019-2020 season kicks off Monday, July 29th at 8:00pm, and continues through Friday, April 21st, 2020. The series of live concerts will showcase notable musicians in one of the world’s most striking cathedrals, the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis located at 4431 Lindell Blvd.
