Assemblymember Robert Rivas featured at our next Members Only Luncheon

We are excited to welcome Assemblymember Robert Rivas to our monthly members-only lunch. Robert Rivas, who is in his first term, represents the 30th District, which includes parts of Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties. Assemblymember Rivas will be discussing with MCBC members some of his current legislation for our district.

$4.8 million grant to fund teacher prep program

California State University Monterey Bay (MCBC member) has been selected to receive funding under the U.S. Department of Education’s Teacher Quality Partnership program in the amount of $4,849,320; $2.2M of which will go directly to student scholarships.

The award, expected to span over a total of five years, will also help fund a project entitled Preparing Observational Practitioners through Partnerships Yearlong (POPPY) and support CSUMB partnerships with eight school districts across Monterey County, further advancing the “grow your own” model of teacher preparation. Read more

'Discover CSUMB: Open Campus' this Saturday

California State University, Monterey Bay (MCBC member) will host "Discover CSUMB: Open Campus 2019" this weekend, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m  Saturday, Oct. 12 on the Seaside campus. This free event will feature admissions presentations, interactive academic demonstrations such as virtual reality scuba dives, collaborative art exhibits, live performances by student music groups, food trucks, and professors and instructors on hand to answer questions about majors and programs. Free parking is only available in Parking Lot 59, with shuttle services available all day to transport guests to various drop off locations on campus. RSVP

FAA awards $5.1 million infrastructure improvement grant to Monterey Regional Airport 

The Monterey Regional Airport (MCBC member) will receive a $5.1 million infrastructure improvement grant from the Federal Aviation Administration, to be used for taxiway and apron reconstruction. It's the second FAA grant the airport has received since June. Read more

Application deadline approaching for THRIVE VI

THRIVE will accept 10 startups to be a part of the THRIVE VI Accelerator, a four-month program that kicks off in February 2020 and culminates at THRIVE's Demo Day, held at the Forbes AgTech Summit in Salinas, June 2020. The application deadline is Oct. 31. Apply or learn more here.
