October Bird Walk & Annual Meeting of Members
The Board of Directors of DC Audubon invites all members to join in a morning of birding and camaraderie in Rock Creek Park at our annual meeting and field trip bird walk on October 19, 2019.

Our annual meeting coincides with Global Big Day and a prime time to see late fall migrants like Yellow-rumped, Palm, and Blackpoll warblers and early winter arrivals including White-throated Sparrows, Purple Finches, and kinglets. The bird walk will start at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Pavilion #13. Following the bird walk, we will gather in the pavilion at 10:00 a.m. to socialize and elect new directors to the board. Enjoy bagels and sandwiches while mingling with your fellow Audubon members and board members.  If you're unsure if you're a member but want to participate in voting and electing new members to the board, then it’s time to check your membership! To become a member or renew your membership with DC Audubon, join National Audubon Society, which includes a membership to DC Audubon and a one-year subscription to Audubon Magazine. Be sure to select “D75” as your Chapter Identification Code.

We hope you can join us! As always, please use caution when traveling to new locations.  Get your ducks in a row and register here.

Get your plumage ready for fall: We have t-shirts!
Show your love for DC Audubon by ordering a t-shirt with a custom-designed logo featuring DC's state bird--the wood thrush! Women's, men's, toddler's and onesie designs are available by clicking on this link.  Orders must be placed by October 31st and will be shipped directly to you in mid-November. Please note the image in the pictures is slightly distorted in size on the website; the actual products will look great on you and definitely make you cool.  The shirt designs and colors cannot be altered. These shirts will make a great holiday gift!  Please note, if you ordered using the old link, you're fine!  Just a mixup on the vendor's end but you'll get your stuff!

Big thanks to Michelle McCoskey for the design!

Learn more about the Rock Creek Park Urban Bird Garden
Explore the Rock Creek Nature Center bird-friendly native plant garden,  and you may see Tiger Swallowtails, Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds, and Milkweed Tiger Moths -- just a few of the denizens of this small but vibrant space. Steve Dryden, DC Audubon board member and director of the Rock Creek Songbirds project, will discuss native species in the garden and how they interact with wildlife. He will also talk about the development of the Nature Center garden and answer questions about creating a bird- and wildlife-friendly preserve in your backyard or neighborhood park. There will also be an opportunity to help with fall clean-up of the garden (tools will be provided). The Nature Center site includes “Water-wise” features such as previous pavers and two rain gardens, and how-to instructions to install your own. Join us on October 13th!
