John Lister, Renowned NHS campaigner, Editor of The Lowdown, Co-Founder of Health Campaigns Together, and a Senior Lecturer in Journalism at the University of Coventry, will give a talk on the state of the NHS in 2019 and the challenges that face it as an increasingly extreme Conservative government continues its attempts to privatise the health service. John has an unrivalled breadth of knowledge in this area and his talk will be invaluable both for concerned citizens and activists who wish to combat the privatisation agenda.
James Skinner, is an Access to Healthcare Campaigner at MedAct, where he works on the Patients Not Passports campaign, organising alongside healthcare workers and patients to challenge the Hostile Environment in the NHS. Before that he was an A&E nurse, and worked with Docs Not Cops, and was involved in community-led planning in North London. James' talk will look at the impact that immigration checks and the expansion of charging is having across the NHS and in the way in which we deliver care. Yet again it will be an incredibly informing talk both for those who wish to know more about how such atrocities as the Windrush scandal could have occured, and most importantly, how we can prevent a repeat event.
Luke Costello works with Doc Not Cops and is campaigning against the hostile environment in the NHS. Outside of this work as an activist/campaigner Luke is a Trainee Advanced Critical Care Practitioner at St Bartholomew's, his talk will also look at the impact that the hostile environment is having on both the delivery and access to care.
Grab your tickets now and don't miss out on the chance to hear these talks and to participate in what promises to be a day of robust discussion and debate. As well as hearing from these brilliant speakers, the NHA will be debating important matters such as an upcoming general elections, Brexit and much more!
