Princess Margriet Award ceremony
It is highly unlikely you missed our annual Princess Margriet Award ceremony. But in case you did, we have compiled a dedicated webpage for our laureates Ahdaf Soueif and City of Women, where you can read all about them. The portrait videos of both award winners are also included on that page, but you can access them directly too: Ahdaf Soueif and City of Women.
Stories of Europe
The award ceremony coincided with our 65th anniversary. To celebrate we looked back at the foundation’s history and work through the launch of the publication Stories Of Europe. The bookazine is available as a free download and we wish you as much fun and insights in reading the book as we had in making it.
Amsterdam Manifesto for Europe
But as you know, here at the European Cultural Foundation, we are not about looking back only. Our director, André Wilkens looked ahead, and gives all of you insights into the foundation’s plans for the future, by presenting the Amsterdam Manifesto for Europe.
Aftermovie
Democracy Needs Imagination grant call
The second round of our Democracy Needs Imagination grant call closed last Friday 27 September at noon. With our call we want to support people that work for European democratic values, fight for their rights as citizens, for their right to public space and personal freedoms, and for their right to creative expression. We received a great number of applications - more than 900! - showing us we’re not alone. That should give all of us hope. Read on about grantees from the first round, like Another Europe is Possible, Europe Talks or De Balie.
Bring back culture, Mrs. President
“Perfect timing, great audience, clear messaging. You’re doing exactly the right thing!” This is how a participant qualified the policy event “Act for Europe through Culture”, organised by the European Cultural Foundation and Culture Action Europe, in cooperation with the European Heritage Alliance 3.3 and BOZAR, which took place in Brussels on September 23rd.
Courageous Citizens
We launched our grant call Courageous Citizens in 2018. Out of 500 applications, we welcomed 31 new grantees and their projects into our network in Europe and beyond. We have collected their stories of successes, difficulties and surprises in an interview series.
