MGCM holds natural gas operator training sessions

MPUA's gas commission (the Municipal Gas Commission of Missouri (MGCM)_ is providing a new set  of Natural Gas Operator Qualification training sessions on Oct 24th and 25th, at the MPUA’s Columbia offices. These OQ training sessions, focused on meeting corrosion control requirements, are being attended by 21 workers from nine utilities. Utilities represented are from the cities of Clarence, Fulton, Kennett, Madison, Monroe City, Perry, Shelbina, Stonington (IL) and Waynesville.

The expert instructor for the sessions is Warren Matlock, who previously worked 32 years for the gas department of City Utilities of Springfield, retiring from CU in 2003 as General Supervisor of Gas Operations. His areas of responsibility at included corrosion control, leak investigation, gas systems control, gas operations and measurement. He also provided gas operator qualification evaluation since 1990 at Springfield CU, and was chair of the Midwest Energy Association's Measurement and Control Committee.

Missouri Public Water Council will meet Nov. 6 at Centralia

MPUA's Missouri Public Water Council (MPWC) will hold a roundtable and workshop on Nov. 6, from 10am - 3pm at Centralia (801 E. Switzler, Centralia, MO 65240). The roundtable will discuss integrated planning, with a presentation on the integrated planning process for wastewater/water systems at the City of Shelbina. MPUA will discuss regulation updates, legislative priorities, water and wastewater fees, upcoming training opportunities, and go over the Water Protection Forum agenda. Our roundtable discussions will also continue, a forum for water and wastewater professionals to have a lively exchange of ideas and discussion on current projects, goals, and topics of interest. Finally, we will tour Centralia’s facility and discuss their wastewater irrigation system. As always, this is a this is a FREE EVENT for MPUA municipal members, and we will provide the food/beverage. We are working with DNR to working with DNR to obtain OpCert credits for this event. Please RSVP by October 31 to training@mpua.org, so we can order the correct amount of food.

Please join MPUA for your closest regional utility roundtable event in the coming months. These gatherings are informal events for utility staff members to share information and seek advice from their peers. These events are FREE of charge and open to city administrators/managers, utility directors, and utility staff members. MPUA staff members will lead discussions based on topics the group wants to discuss. Please RSVP to training@mpua.org with your name, title, and email of those attending.

Missouri DNR offers grant funding to improve water quality. Grant application deadline is Nov. 15

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is accepting applications for federal grant funding for projects that will protect Missouri’s waters from pollution caused by stormwater runoff, also known as nonpoint source pollution. The deadline for grant applications is Nov. 15. Local governments, state agencies, educational institutions and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations may apply for a grant. To be eligible for funding, an applicant must either develop a new watershed-based plan, update an existing plan or implement pollutant-reducing land management practices from a watershed-based plan already approved by EPA and the department. Grant awards range from $50,000 to $300,000 and projects can span up to three years. The grant funding is provided by the U.S. EPA and administered by the department. Research, NPDES permit requirements and regulatory enforcement projects are not eligible. For more information or to submit a grant application, visit the DNR website (HERE).

APPA/Nissan rebate offer EXTENDED to Jan. 2

The American Public Power Association and Nissan have extended the offer to public power communities on exclusive rebates on the all-electric 2019 Nissan LEAF. The Nissan rebates now expire January 2, 2020. Public power customers and employees are eligible for a rebate of $3,500 on the 2019 Nissan LEAF 40 kWh Standard and of $2,500 on the 2019 Nissan LEAF 62 kWh ePlus.
