Discover the Way of Love, Sunday 8am and 10am

“To bring others to Christ through Worship, Witness, and Love for one another and our neighbor.”
— St. Anne's Mission

St. Anne's Episcopal Church is a vibrant, energetic, optimistic, fun, and loving community of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington located in Upper Montgomery County, MD. As Episcopalians we believe in a loving, liberating, and life-giving God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We are descendants of and partners with the Church of England and the Scottish Episcopal Church, and are part of the third largest group of Christians in the world.

We believe in following the teachings of Jesus Christ, whose life, death, and resurrection saved the world.

Ours is a legacy of inclusion. We aspire to tell and exemplify God’s love for every human being. We believe that God loves you – no exceptions.

Traveling The Way of Love
Episode 3, Worship

In worship, we gather with others before God, hearing the Good News of Jesus Christ, giving thanks, confessing, and offering the brokenness of the world to God. But what does it mean to worship in a non-traditional setting? How can we be responsive to neighbors who might never walk through the red doors? St. Lydia’s shows us how to worship in the language of their neighbors.
Traveling The Way of Love - Episode 3
Stewardship is a year round event!  This is why we support our church.

Stewardship 2020 - Living Our Mission

Did you know?
Are you giving the same amount that you have for the last several years? If so, do you realize that the value of your giving keeps going down because of inflation?

Don't Forget to prayerfully consider your Estimate of Giving for 2020.

Forms are available in the Narthex which you can turn in on Sunday. You may also enter your estimate through your Realm account or by entering it through our website.

Annual Meeting Date Set

The Annual Meeting of St. Anne's will take place during and following our worship on January 12, 2020. Please save the date!

Vestry Nominations Open

  • At the Annual Meeting we will be electing the Junior Warden (2-year term) and two at large members (3-year term) of the vestry. The nominating committee consists of John Catlin, Mary Pacey and Bill Mathews. Currently Kurt Yonkovich and Vivian Logan were completing terms vacated by others. As such they both are eligible and have agreed to stand for re-election to the vestry. In addition John Catlin has agreed to stand for re-election for Junior Warden. As per our by-laws, if anyone is interesting in being nominated to stand for election, then please see a member of the nominating committee.

Music Notes

This Sunday during the offertory, Tom Hill will be playing a trombone solo:  Pious Hearts - Aria from Handel’s oratorio titled “Judas Maccabees”, composed by George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) and arranged by Stan Pethel. Judas Maccabeus became one of Handel's most popular oratorios during his lifetime after its London premier in 1747. The recitative and aria is from late in the work and is a reminder to the house of Judah to not fear the nations that defy the Israelites; that God will defend and be the friend of Zion. Judas Maccabeus, also called Judah or Judas Maccabee, Maccabeus also spelled Maccabaeus, (died 161/160 bce), Jewish leader who defended his country from invasion by the Seleucid king Antiochus IV Epiphanes, preventing the imposition of Hellenism upon Judaea, and preserving the Jewish religion. The son of Mattathias, an aged priest who took to the mountains in rebellion when Antiochus attempted to impose the Greek religion on the Jews, Judas took over the rebel leadership on his father’s death and proved to be a military genius, overthrowing four Seleucid armies in quick succession and restoring the Temple of Jerusalem. This deed is celebrated in the Jewish festival of lights, Ḥanukka. On Antiochus’ death in 164 bce, the Seleucids offered the Jews freedom of worship, but Judas continued the war, hoping to free his nation politically as well as religiously. Although he himself was killed two years later, his younger brothers took over the fight, finally securing the independence of Judaea.  Source: http://bit.ly/2q00DQW  & http://bit.ly/2OzGeMU

Vocal Choir - This Sunday the Vocal Choir will be singing Who at My Door is Standing. This song was written by Mary Bridges Canedy Slade (1826-1882). The hymn tune, Alberta, was composed by Asa B. Everett (1828-1875). The choir is singing an arrangement by K. Lee Scott. Revelation 3:20 - Listen! I am standing at the door, knocking; if you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to you and eat with you, and you with me.

Like to sing? Come to a Vocal Choir rehearsal on a Thursday evening and give us a try. Rehearsals are every Thursday starting at 7:30. Not sure or have questions? Talk to Rachel, our Organist/MusicDirector, or any member of the vocal choir on Sunday. We especially need sopranos and altos.

Bell Choir – Want to know what it feels like to play the bells? Have questions? After the 10:00 am service Steve Mullen will be available in the choir area to talk to you about bells and demonstrate bell playing. You can even have a go at playing a bell. Come join us and find out what it’s all about. We need more Ringers so that we can play three octaves pieces rather that two octave pieces.

Clearing up Some Misunderstandings About REALM

All about Realm

What is Realm? Realm is a computer program that the Episcopal Diocese of Washington is encouraging churches in the diocese to use.

Why is St. Anne's using Realm? Realm makes it easier for the church to send email, track membership and financial information, and write reports.

What do I need to do in Realm? Enter your email address. This email was sent with Realm. If you are reading this, it means your email is already in Realm.

How did my email get in Realm? Two ways -- either you entered it or the office entered it.

What else do I need to do? Father Lee must write required reports for the national Episcopal church. It would help a lot to have your date of birth for these, and it is usual for churches to have your date of birth – it is a requirement to provide date of birth at baptism etc.

What is in these reports? The reports describe St. Anne's. They include counts of people by age groups. They do not include name, address, phone number, or any other information about you as an individual.

Is my information safe? Yes. Only St. Anne's members and regular visitors can access Realm.

Who can see my information? People who could see your information in our old system can see it now. This includes Father Lee, Carmen, the Treasurer and the Assistant Treasurer. Kristie Taylor can see your contact information and date of birth. Kristie helps St. Anne's members with Realm. All other St. Anne's members can see only what you give permission for them to see.

How do I give permission? In Realm, click on "privacy" and review the settings. Kristie Taylor can help you with this.

Why don't we have a church directory? There is a church directory in Realm! It has phone numbers, addresses, email addresses and other information in it.

But I don't want my information in the directory! You are in control. You can give permission for what is in the directory. Kristie Taylor can help you with this.

Worries about Realm (these are NOT true!)

People are (NOT) being excluded. You do NOT need to use Realm personally. If you choose not to use it, you will still get all information as long as the office has your email. BUT you will not be able to send emails to others in any ministry or group you are part of and you won’t have access to the directory.

Our information is (NOT) being sold.. No outside person can view our data and it will NOT be sold to marketers. The Episcopal Church has never in its history sold personal information to marketers, and it is NOT doing that now.

Credit checks are (NOT) being done. The church is NOT conducting credit checks on members. For one thing, It is illegal to do a credit check without your permission. For another, we are NOT asking for your SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER.

If you have any other questions or concerns about what Realm is or how your information will be used, please talk to Father Lee.

Need Help with Your Realm Profile?

This Sunday Kristie Taylor will be back in the parish hall on October 13th to help you update your REALM information and (if needed) to show you how to manage communications.
