The CDI is excited to highlight some of the amazing students who are a part of the T-Bird family. This year we will continue our Student of the Month initiative where outstanding students can be nominated and featured throughout the school year.
Nominations are accepted from any SUU faculty, staff, or student. Winners will be chosen by the CDI team and will be recognized physically in the CDI, in the electronic newsletter, and will be awarded a gift card in appreciation.
The Student of the Month nominee should demonstrate the qualities of a leader, exemplify the CDI’s mission, and actively promotes the center’s message of inclusivity. Nominate a deserving student for October HERE!
Events
Undocu Week Next week, the CDI will celebrate Undocu Migrant week. Come support our brothers and sisters at the following events:
Monday, October 14 from 11 AM to 8 PM. The UndocuMigrant Alliance will be holding an immigration exhibit called, "Walk With Us" at the Ballroom in the Student Center next Monday. Admission is free and everyone is welcome to take a closer look at an immigrant's journey to the U.S.
Wednesday, October 16 from 6 PM to 9 PM. UMA will host a screening of Forbidden: Undocumented and Queer in Rural America in room ST 161D. The film is a documentary about Moises Serrano that calls for immigration reform and highlights the challenges of undocumented migrants and the LGBT community, particularly in rural parts of the South.
Friday, October 18 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. In the Starlight Room, found on the second floor of the Student Center, the UndocuMigrant Alliance will collaborate with Youth Futures, a homeless youth shelter in St. George, and poet / activists Ella Mendoza and Christopher Soto for a storytelling event. It aims to raise awareness for the issues homeless youth face, particularly if they are queer, undocumented, and / or Latinx, and to raise money for the homeless youth. Food will be provided during this event.
Miss Native American SUU Applications are open! The Native American Student Association of Southern Utah University will be holding its annual Miss Native American SUU (NASUU) Scholarship Pageant Friday, November 22, 2019.The pageant will be a stepping stone to encourage young women to strive for self improvement, leadership, and the opportunity to represent Southern Utah University as an official ambassador on behalf of Native American students. A scholarship will be awarded to the newly crowned Miss Native American SUU for the 2019-2020 academic school year. Applications will close on Friday, October 25. Think your acting skills are up to par? The Native American Student Alliance (NASA) is hosting a Haunted House and they need actors ASAP! The theme for the house is an asylum, and they will be opening on Sunday, October 27 until Thursday, October 31 from 8 to 11 PM.
Want to make a difference in our community and get some volunteering hours? NASA will be holding a community service project on November 10 to 16, and will be needing either cans of food or people to help them out.

OUR MISSION The Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) exists to validate the multiple identities present on our campus, while integrating the voices and experiences of marginalized people. We provide emotional, social, and financial support to students from historically underrepresented communities (e.g. students of color, LGBTQIA+ students, first-generation college students, etc.)
The CDI collaborates with campus partners to foster a learning environment that respects multiple perspectives and differences through multicultural clubs, workshops, trainings and cultural programming. The CDI invites members of the campus community to join in conversation about how to cultivate an inclusive, safe, and welcoming campus culture.
