We JUST sent out our newsletters yesterday - it should be in your mailbox today - but things are moving so fast right now, there are already a few more things to tell you about!

This Weekend at First Lutheran

Final Blessings for our Nave – This weekend is your last chance to add a note of blessing to the special container which will be hung in the rafters of our renovated Nave. Next weekend at each worship service we will have a special dedication of the prayers and blessings.
CROP Walk – Also this Sunday afternoon, is the Cedar Rapids Area CROP hunger walk. The walk supports local food banks and international relief efforts. The walk starts at 1:30 p.m. in Thomas Park, Marion. You can still sign up to walk or support our First Lutheran team at crophungerwalk.org/cedarrapidsia

Neighborhood Clean-up –
If walking a couple miles for hunger sounds like too much for Sunday afternoon, how about walking a few blocks to help clean up Wellington Heights. We will be doing a neighborhood clean-up Sunday starting at 12:15 p.m. Gloves and trash bags provided.
2nd Sunday Hymn Sing –  Join us on Sunday, October 13 at 4 p.m. for a time of readings and hymn singing and connecting with one another in a relaxed and casual setting!
This month we are focusing with hymns and readings about the Sacrament of Holy Baptism.
This Weekend in Worship

Preaching: Pastor Mark Urlaub (Saturday)
Pastor Craig Brown (Sunday)
Sermon: "A New Covenant”
Christ is the mediator of God's new covenant. God is no longer a theory to be taught in a textbook because now everyone in the world has had up close and personal knowledge of God who has walked among us. God has come TO US firsthand in Christ so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance – the goodness of God and all that comes with it.  He lived and died as a ransom to set us free from the sins we have committed under God’s original agreement with human beings back in Abraham’s day.

Scripture: Hebrews 8:6-12; Hebrews 9:15, 24-28; Mark 1:1-11 NIV
