The Lake Effect in Honduras
A Land Like No Other
At Ritual, it’s always been our mission to seek out the most sustainable win-win relationships with the best coffee-growing families and collectives from around the globe.

In tandem, we’ve been continually thrilled to discover that growing quality coffee is not unlike growing wine grapes, where it’s all about the terroir. The unique properties of the land and soil are of vital importance.

Nowhere is this more beautifully evident than in the Lake Yojoa region of Honduras, where a group of Ritual baristas and staff journeyed this year alongside our green coffee buyer Aaron Van der Groen.

The team handpicked ripe coffee cherries, meeting nearly all of the producers we work with on foggy Santa Bárbara Mountain.

They learned how coffee is processed, sorted, and evaluated at Beneficio San Vicente in Peña Blanca, ate plenty of baleadas (Honduran breakfast tacos), and returned with the collective sentiment that Honduras is a place of complicated beauty, but tremendous with potential and heart.

Ritual began sending baristas to coffee growing communities in 2014. For those serious about coffee it could stand in for paradise.

Every year since, we’ve offered the opportunity to all Ritual employees, and they always return with super fresh coffees and more than a few stories to tell.
