Flu Vaccine at Stonegate CHC

The vaccine has arrived!   Book an appointment with one of our nurses to get your vaccine. We have a stronger vaccine for seniors compared to what you can get at a pharmacy.

So come here for your vaccine!  We recommend the flu shot for everyone 6 months old and older.  Kids get the flu most often and kids under 5 are at the greatest risk of complications.

Good Food Box Holiday Drive
Give the Gift of Good Food to Local Families this Holiday Season

Poverty continues to be a serious issue in the Stonegate community, where an estimated 28% of families and 38% of children live below the poverty line.  Compounding this has been the redevelopment of Stonegate Plaza which has left our community as a “food desert”, without walkable access to fresh healthy food. While Stonegate CHC provides resources including a mobile food market and organized bus trips to the grocery store, these measures don’t fill the gap. Many community members rely on the local food bank to meet their food needs.

Over the past nine years, thanks to generous donors, Stonegate Community Health Centre has been able to provide over 2000 Good Food Boxes to neighbourhood individuals and families dealing with food insecurity and hunger.

This year, the Health Centre is once again relying on donations from businesses, partners and community residents to meet our goal of providing more than 300 boxes to those struggling to put healthy food on the table.

A donation of $18 buys a local family a large size Good Food Box brimming with fresh fruits and vegetables as a gift for the holidays.  The Good Food Box is a non-profit fresh fruit and vegetable distribution system operated by FoodShare Toronto. Every Good Food Box is filled with top-quality fruits and vegetables from local farmers and the Ontario Food Terminal

$50 provides Good Food Boxes to 3 families in need.
$100 provides Good Food Boxes to 6 families in need.
$250 provides Good Food Boxes to 15 families in need.
$500
provides Good Food Boxes to 30 families in need.

100% of donations go towards providing fresh healthy food for those in need.

To make a donation, click on the following link or please connect with Julia Graham, Community Food Program Coordinator, at 416.231.7070 ext. 229.  Charitable tax receipts are available for every donation.

Pollinator Garden

We are excited to announce that AlterEden & Stonegate CHC received funds to develop a pollinator garden from the City of Toronto as part of the city's Pollinator Protection Strategy.

The pollinator garden will be located in Bell Manor Park. The ground work for the garden has already started with mulch being placed on the grass in order to help our planting efforts in the spring. Education around pollinator gardening and pollinators will be extended to the community via workshops as well as a small seed library on site in 2020 at Stonegate CHC.

If you are interested in helping us, and getting your hands dirty, by turning soil and planting the garden in spring/summer 2020, please contact Julia at 416-231-7070 ext. 229.

Yoga Outreach Project at Stonegate CHC

Stonegate CHC has had the opportunity to collaborate and partner with the Yoga Outreach Project to deliver yoga classes at our site for the past several months free of charge. The classes have provided us with an opportunity not only to expose our community to yoga, but have also helped us meet a need identified by our primary health team to increase physical activity in our community.  The classes are delivered by the same certified yoga instructor each week, Hayley.

Client feedback indicates that since attending classes, participants feel less stressed, have improved mood and feel healthier overall.

We look forward to our continued partnership and the opportunity to support such an important initiative in our community.  Thank you Yoga Outreach Project for giving Stonegate this opportunity!

Fall Choir

Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without” - Confucious

Building from the success  from last year’s Carol Sing and the positive response from the Spring Choir, Stonegate decided to sing on and offer a choir this season. Weekly choir practices are held on Mondays from 3:00 - 4:30 pm in the Multi-purpose room.  The hope is it will allow for a time for adults to come together  to sing Christmas carols  as one voice and hopefully have fun in the process.  This will all be in preparation towards the final session of the group which is a Christmas  social for friends and family to enjoy what the group has been working on.

If this is something that you are interested in joining, please call 416.231.7070 ext. 307 to register.
