A Word From Pastor Morgan
The green leaves are beginning to dress up in their autumn colors. Trees slowly blush with rosy hue or burn into orange and yellow. This means that soon the branches will let go of their leaves sending them to the earth as a brown crunchy carpet. This led me to think of the word deciduous. Primarily, deciduous is a botanical term describing plants which lose their leaves with the changing seasons. The term means “falling off at maturity.” But another definition is “the dropping of a part that is no longer needed” and the “falling away of a part after its purpose is finished.” In this way it also can refer to things other than plants. For instance, deer antlers and baby teeth are deciduous because they fall off, or fall out, when their purpose is finished.
