Taking policy action –

Toronto Council voted unanimously Oct. 2, to declare a climate emergency and adopted a stronger emissions reduction target for Toronto – net zero by 2050. Joining more than 800 cities around the world in acknowledging the scale of the climate crisis to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees and avoid catastrophic impacts. The Plan will be presented to Council in the spring of 2020.

London declared a climate emergency In front of a packed gallery on April 23 earlier this year. A report from staff is expected in November. This strategy will expect to provide a lens and focus for the city moving forward. Watch for it!

During the week of September 20-27, an amazing number of events and citizens have spoken to the importance of addressing climate change now. Over 4 million took part in the Sept 20 climate strike and many communities including London had important gatherings throughout the following week. A call for change is immediate.

Sincerely
