2020 Summer Trip:
Germany & Switzerland
Are you interested in taking a trip to Germany and Switzerland this summer to learn about science and sustainable living? Ms. Lowell is leading a 10-day trip with EF Tours in early June with stops in Berlin, Freiburg, and Lucerne. The final interest meeting will be in Ms. Lowell's room (C-315) on October 16 from 5:30-6:00pm. 9th-12th graders are welcome. If you can't make the meeting but are interested, please EMAIL Ms. Lowell at for information.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Please consider supporting the Grady High School FBLA as we igKnight Awareness for Breast Cancer. We are having a school-wide PINK OUT on Friday, October 25, 2019. The cost of the shirt is $20. Yearbooks
On Thursday, September 19th, Grady High School Yearbook, the Orator, received two major awards from the Georgia Scholastic Press Association:
The first was a "Superior" rating for the yeabook; and the cover--which was designed by Jack Palaian--was recognized as the "Best in State."
We are so very proud that our efforts are paying off and look forward to you purchasing a yearbook for your child by going HERE.
Finally, please note the following deadlines:
* The deadline for baby pictures has been extended to October 15--the same date senior quotes are due.
Remember:
* There is no cost to include a senior quote with your senior picture. However, there is a $5.00 fee to get your baby pictures included in the yearbook.
Again, the deadline for both senior quotes and baby pictures has been extended to Tuesday, October 15th. To upload your senior quote and baby picture, go to google classroom and type in dkgob2s. Don't get left out!!
Finally, for those freshmen, sophomores and juniors who did not get their school pictures taken, underclassmen picture retakes will be held on Wednesday, October 23 at school. Again, don't miss this opportunity to get your picture in the yearbook.
We need your photos! Please send in pictures of some of your major activities to the yearbook via www.replayit.com and you may see them in the upcoming yearbook.
Grady High School Foundation
Do you know about the Grady High School Foundation (GHSF)? This is a team of parents, alumni, and faculty with a mission to support Grady High School. GHSF was created to enable large capital and technology improvements for our school. Based on feedback from Dr. Betsy Bockman and the faculty, the centerpiece of this program is our “1:1 Initiative”, to provide every student with a dedicated Chromebook laptop in the classroom.
We made great strides in this last year, purchasing almost 400 new Chromebooks for the classroom, but we still have a long way to go to reach our goal. Support our students and help us get there this year! DONATE TODAY!

YouScience
Grady will administer YouScience this year. What is YouScience? YouScience gives students hope, relevance, and direction by expanding their vision of opportunities.
Unlike traditional interest surveys, YouScience uses fun, engaging ‘brain games’ to capture real measures of aptitudes (natural abilities most important to career choice). YouScience then translates those talents into real world, high-demand careers. Please see the YouScience Parent Letter here:

Senior Advisement
Counselors have been conducting individual advisement with seniors/cohort 2020. Every senior will have individual advisement with their school counselor. Advisement include review of Individual Graduation Plan, transcript audit, academic advisement, post-secondary planning, and much more. Each senior/parent will receive the Senior Contract and Class of 2020 Prospective Graduate Summary Form. These documents will be mailed on Friday, November 15.
Senior Reminders
*High school transcript requests must be made online via parchment.com.
*Seniors requiring college recommendations must notify their counselor & provide their counselor with a resume/brag sheet at least 14 school days prior to their deadline. Seniors must honor this deadline.
*Seniors have been provided with the Class of 2020 Senior Packet and College Information Sheet that outline the college application process and important links/information. We invite you to visit the Counseling, CCC, & College Advisors website for information under the "Guidance" page HERE.
Seniors: FAFSA Is Officially Open!
Through FAFSA, students apply for grants, student loans, and scholarships, at the federal, state, and institutional level (including the Georgia Hope and Zell Miller Scholarships). It’s important to fill the FAFSA out as soon as possible to meet school and state financial aid deadlines. Seniors make sure both you and your parent create an FSA id before starting your FAFSA application. To apply for FAFSA go to fafsa.gov. If you need help making your FSA ID and filling out your FAFSA come see your college advisers ASAP. Once you complete your FAFSA application, send your college advisers confirmation of your FAFSA submission to be entered into a raffle to win homecoming game and dance tickets!
Grady High School College & Career Expo
The School Counseling Department will host a College & Career Expo Tuesday, October 22, 6:00 PM. Representatives from 4 year colleges/universities, 2 year colleges, technical schools, gap year programs, & employers will be in attendance. Additionally, a college financial aid representative will be onsite to assist parents with the Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which opens on October 1. This event is for 9th-12th grade parents & students. We look forward to seeing you there!

Cross Country will look to continue its successful 2019 campaign with a strong showing at the APS Championship Meet. The Girls have finished 1st in every APS Series Meet so far, while the Boys have battled back and forth with North Atlanta for the top spot. Come out to Grant Park on Tuesday to cheer on the Knights!

Community Service Hours
Community service hours are managed and stored in a platform called MobileServe. Students can log their hours HERE.
They can download the app to their smartphones too. Once their accounts are created, 9th graders should select GP2023 for their organization. This ensures that their accounts are attached to Grady High School.
Students Volunteer Needs
To assist each of you in earning the 75 hours of volunteer service required for an APS diploma, there are some really interesting events that you can assist and participate.
MORNINGSIDE TUTORS
One of our cluster's elementary, Morningside, is in need of high school volunteers to assist with tutoring their students. See 1st attached flyer for details. If you're interested, let me know which Saturday(s) that you're available.

GHS PTSA FUNDRAISING SATURDAY SUNDAY, OCTOBER 12 & OCTOBER 13
Please come and volunteer to help GHS PTSA, GHS Theater (M. Willoughy) and GHS Debate (M. Herrera) on fund raise in the GHS Parking lots on Saturday October 12.
On Sunday, October 13, GHS PTSA, GHS Moot Court (J. Sullivan) and GHS National Honor Society (T. Monye) will fund raise in the parking lots.
The groups will be fundraising during Atlanta Pride Weekend in Piedmont Park.
If you sign up to help and is a part of of the above educational groups as well as PTSA please indicate which group you are fundraising in the comment section. Students please work with the teachers for a time to sign up. Review the available slots HERE.

The 2019-2020 Georgia FBLA theme is "Vision for Your Financial Future". The purpose of this new state project is to serve as a tool to teach students about personal finances.
