EU-ARISE PLUS PROJECT – THAILAND

On Monday October 7th, EABC was honored to have a meeting with three representatives of ARISE Plus - Thailand Project. The ARISE Plus  - Thailand Project is aimed at supporting country-specific interventions to complement the ARISE PLUS Regional programme and the overall ASEAN regional integration process. The project will focus on the topics of Competition, Public procurement and trade-oriented organic agriculture. The overall Objective is to support inclusive and sustainable trade growth and poverty reduction in Thailand, while contributing to economic integration in the ASEAN region.

FITCH THAILAND ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2019

On Tuesday Morning (Oct 2) EABC was invited to Fitch Ratings’ 2019 Annual Conference on “Global Risks & Thailand’s Economic Outlook” at Grand Hall, The Athénee Hotel. Topics discussed included the global risks & outlook for Thailand and major economies, Asia Pacific banking sector outlook, and assessing ESG risks in corporate and financial institutions, with Dr. Uttama Savanayana, Minister of Finance, given the keynote opening address.

GUILLOTINE PROJECT

 
The Guillotine Project is a fast track way of reviewing laws and regulations and removing unnecessary or unwanted laws and regulations, or revising them, according to a process.
Please do submit proposals for change or removal of any laws or regulations which are about licences or permits of any kind.

Some 1,000 issues, regulations or laws are expected to processed by May 2019. The first batch of 370 of these can be viewed on the ‘Simple and Smart License’ site

HSBC PREPARES TO SLASH 10,000 JOBS IN COST-CUTTING MEASURE
October 6, 2019
HSBC is preparing to axe up to 10,000 jobs as it begins a drastic cost-cutting measure under the direction of new interim chief executive Noel Quinn. 

The plans would make for the bank’s most significant cutbacks in recent memory, with Mr. Quinn set to be the latest banking executive to drive forward with a jobs cull.

HONG KONG SHOPPERS CLEAR SHELVES AS PANIC GRIPS A CITY STRUGGLING TO COPE WITH CHAOS OF ANTI-GOVERNMENT PROTESTS

Supermarkets, shopping centres and MTR stations all remain closed for second day. Hong Kong shoppers emptied supermarket shelves and queued up at ATMs on Sunday as the city’s metro system remained half shut and major shopping centres stayed closed after chaos hit multiple districts in the city.

While early-bird shoppers complained about having to queue for almost 45 minutes at cashiers at supermarkets, latecomers were confronted with almost empty shelves. Throughout the morning, social media was awash with pictures of supermarkets and grocery stores that appeared to have almost no stock.

GERMANY COULD FACE REFUGEE INFLUX BIGGER THAN 2015 IF EU DOES NOT AGREE QUOTA SYSTEM, INTERIOR MINISTER WARNS

Germany's interior minister warned on Sunday that the country could soon face a refugee influx bigger than the one it dealt with in 2015, as he sought support for his plans for an EU quota system for rescued migrants.

Mr. Seehofer, a member of the conservative CSU party, was one of the most critical voices in the German government towards Angela Merkel’s decision to open the country’s borders in 2015. But his new plan has surprised many by committing Germany to taking in a quarter of the asylum seekers that arrive in the EU via the sea crossing from North Africa to Italy. He has not committed to accept any of those entering the EU via Greece or Spain.

THE BEE IS DECLARED THE MOST IMPORTANT LIVING BEING ON THE PLANET
Its sting hurts a lot, but if they were to disappear, it would hurt much more. The Earthwatch Institute concluded in the last debate of the Royal Geographical Society of London, that bees are the most important living being on the planet, however, scientists have also made an announcement: Bees have already entered into extinction risk.

Bees around the world have disappeared up to 90% according to recent studies, the reasons are different depending on the region, but among the main reasons are massive deforestation, lack of safe places for nests, lack of flowers, use uncontrolled pesticides, changes in soil, among others.
