Researchers testing virtual reality to teach med students empathy »

Gaining insight into a patient’s concerns and feelings is essential for positive clinical interactions between patients and physicians and better health outcomes. To help foster empathy in medical students, researchers at the School of Medicine Greenville are testing virtual reality videos.

Susanna Auf der Maur-Quinn ‘97 was born in Lugoff, S.C., but just one year after she graduated from law school, she made the jump to Europe and has spent the past 20 years building her career in Germany and Switzerland. She says it was the fulfillment of a childhood dream.

Social Justice Award nominations open

The Social Justice Awards recognize individuals who exemplify the philosophies of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. through acts of community service, social justice or racial reconciliation. The MLK Celebration Committee is accepting nominations for the awards through Oct. 29.

Sherry M.B. Thatcher and Lynn McFarland, business, presented “An examination of the prevalence and consequences of identity disclosures among job seekers” at the Academy of Management Meeting in Boston.

Mēgan Oliver, University Libraries, delivered a research paper, "Optical Mechanics: The Ocularcentric Implications of Digital Collections" at the ‘ACCESS Canada’ library conference in Edmonton, Alberta.
