Volunteer Spotlight
Thank you to all of our incredible volunteer gardeners for their hard work this summer. Garden and grounds nights are now done for the season, but we will have one final workday on Saturday, October 19th from 9am to noon to put the garden and grounds to rest for the cold seasons. More information below!

The sunny seasons have flown by! We are still enjoying beautiful peppers, tomatoes, zucchini, and pickles that were grown in our own backyard. We have enjoyed cooking and canning with our fresh produce as we gaze upon the beautifully landscaped scenery around us. We owe tremendous thanks to Nathan Sime, our volunteer lead vegetable gardener and Terri Alexander, our volunteer lead gardener for flowers and landscaping. They are incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and hard working and their efforts are a gift that keeps on giving. Many hands will make light work for them as they expertly lead the Fall Workday on Saturday, October 19th from 9am to noon. Snacks and beverage will be provided. In case of bad weather, November 2nd will be our rain date. We hope to see you there!

Resident Update
He was so little! This month, we celebrate Odie's second birthday. It's hard to believe that two years have passed since this little Cavapoo puppy joined our family of friends. During that time, he has provided tremendous comfort and peace to beloved residents, Joanna (pictured above) and Bettye, as they passed and has welcomed new friends with his gentle, loving disposition. He answers to Ode, Hody, Ravioli and many other nicknames without complaint and earns his keep every day with cuddles and sweetness.

We hear a lot about diverse community and the need to have meaningful conversations with all community members. We have heard a lot of people asking, "How do we start?"
So, we have decided to host a monthly conversation at Hope & A Future - on the 3rd Sunday of every month at 3:00 p.m. We will have a snack and a special speaker/conversation leader each month. We will plan to spend an hour together. Everyone is invited! And all ages are welcome.
Barbara McKinney district 1 alder will lead our first conversation on Sunday, October 20th 2019 at 3 P.M. Please invite your friends!
If you don't know Barbara, by way of introduction, I have included quotes that are found at the bottom of her emails. They speak volumes about this amazing leader's heart and mind!
"We must intentionally make community voices inclusive and diverse..."
"It is important that you get clear for yourself that your only access to impactiving life is action. Take a look at life as it is lived and see for yourself that the world only moves for you when you act." - Werner Erhard
"When we are whom we are called to be we will set the world ablaze." - Catherine of Siena
