Explore LA's Exposition Park

Saturday, October 26

On Saturday, October 26, the women of West Covina Christian Church will board a metro train en route to Los Angeles to explore the city's Exposition Park. Established in 1872 as an agricultural fairground, it includes the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the Banc of California Stadium, the California Science Center, the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, and the California African American Museum.

The group will be meeting at the church at 9am and carpooling to the Irwindale Gold Line station or you can meet them at Union Station at 10:30am. Stop by the Pretzel Kiosk for more information or to sign up.

Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child collects shoebox gifts—filled with fun toys, school supplies and hygiene items—and delivers them to children in need around the world to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way.

For many of these children, the gift-filled shoebox is the first gift they have ever received. Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child, the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind, has collected and delivered more than 168 million shoebox gifts to children in more than 160 countries and territories.

This year, Operation Christmas Child hopes to collect enough shoebox gifts to reach another 11 million children in countries like Peru, the Philippines, Rwanda and Ukraine. More than 10.6 million shoebox gifts were collected worldwide in 2018, with more than 8.8 million collected in the U.S.

Anyone can pack a shoebox! Individuals, families, Growth Groups can fill empty shoeboxes with school supplies, hygiene items and fun toys, such as dolls or soccer balls. Stop by the display in the entry way to pick up an empty shoebox, tips on what to pack, or to drop off your shoebox if you've already packed it.

For more information on Operation Christmas Child and our church's involvement, see Missions Deacon Arleen Koshimizu.

Advent Devotionals

It's that time of the year again – the compilation of an Advent Devotional book. Did you know that the Kellogg Arabian Horse Center on the Cal Poly Pomona campus has horses and stables, which provide sights and sounds of the no-room-at-the-inn which faced Joseph and Mary?

Why not follow prompts in the scriptures of Christ's birth while at these stables? Or you may choose to follow them in the comfort of your home. The Lord can surprise you. You may write a Christmas devotional Jesus would be proud of! And let us surprise you! You'll be entered to win a seasonal gift, perfect to give away at any family function, Friendsgiving, or white elephant game. Also, perfect for a loved one, an acquaintance, or as a peace offering to others who shall not be named.

This year, why not you?! Sign up at the Pretzel Kiosk or email or text Emi Iwanaga at (909) 720-0245).

Thanksgiving Boxes

Support a Family in Need

For Thanksgiving, the Mercy and Justice ministry is holding a food drive until November 10 collecting various food items to fill 25 Thanksgiving boxes to families in need. If you're interested in donating food items, stop by the Pretzel Kiosk. If you know of a possible family in need that could receive a box, please see Anne Smith.
