Rossini Sneak Peak As you can hear, this fugue is something else, and we are having so much fun polishing it for our concert this coming Sunday at 4:00 pm at South Church in New Britain! And while we love singing with each other, it's just not the same without YOU in our audience to experience it with us. We open CONCORA's 46th season with Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, a work he composed nearly thirty years after his final opera. The Maestro referred to his Messe as “the last of the sins of my old age,” placing it in the company of a series of smaller works he composed in the final decade of his life. Messe has all the appeal of his large-scale operas – lush solo arias, complemented by delicate choral movements, with fugues such as the Cum Sancto we've included as a preview. Rossini composed the work for a 16-voice choir with four soloists. Our forces number twenty, with many of us stepping out to offer the solo ensembles and arias. You'll hear some familiar solo voices – Kirk Bobkowski, Alexander Patrie, and Louise Fauteux, who will be joined by Hungarian mezzo-soprano Agnes Vojtko, a new addition to the CONCORA family. Allan Conway, piano, and James Barry, organ, will accompany the performance under the direction of Chris Shepard.

Join us after the concert for a casual fundraising event at Five Churches Brewing on Arch Street, a short walk from the concert venue. Enjoy celebrated craft beers, (wine or soda if you prefer) and savor delicious pizzas from a wood-fired oven, while CONCORA singers serenade you with Italian opera arias and folksongs. You’ll even have a chance to join in a chorus or two! O Sole Mio, anyone?
