Leeming 400/800 Captain's Report
7 Claremont swimmers entered this event, with 6 looking for record attempts.  These attempts went very well with a total of 1 National Record and 10 State Records gained (subject to ratification).

Paul Blackbeard swam an 800m Freestyle setting new National and State Records with 9:25.24.  During this swim he also took out the State 200m record!

With two State Records each were
Theresa Elliott for the 400/800 freestyle
Carol-Ann Infante 400/800 butterfly
Richard Fox, who finally got a chance to set the record straight with a correctly timed 400/800 backstroke
Sue Swire-Thompson who took out the 200 and 400m Backstroke.

Graham Croft took out the 400m freestyle.
Finally, very well done to Richard Hughes for finishing his first 400 IM ever!  Showing its never too late to start attempting these distances.  Now Richard how about doing an 800m IM next time?

Nationals 2020 Accommodation
The 2020 Masters National Championships start on Wednesday 15th April, with pool events finishing on Saturday 18 April and the Open Water Swim is on Sunday 19th April.
Full details are available on the website:
https://mastersswimmingnsw.org.au/2020-national-championships/2020/

Last time the Nationals were in Sydney we stayed at the Quest Apartments which was the perfect location and because of the convenience will book the Quest again for 2020.
https://www.questapartments.com.au/properties/nsw/sydney-olympic-park/quest-at-sydney-olympic-park/hotel-rooms
It takes about 5 mins to walk to the pool from the Quest which means we don’t have to hire cars or get Taxi’s or Ubers to the pool each day and can go to and from the pool during the day as we please.
The apartments have full kitchens so we make our own meals and prepare food to take to the pool. Other accommodation in the area is either hotel-style without kitchen facilities or is not within walking distance to the pool.

There is a little catch, however – the Sydney Royal Easter Show is on at Sydney Olympic Park from 3 to 14 April and the Quest is fully booked until Wednesday 15th April.
For the Tuesday 14th (and Monday 13th for those who want to go over earlier) we can book the Ibis Hotel ( just round the corner from the Quest) and transfer to the Quest on Wednesday.
The only swim event on  Wednesday 15th  is the 800m so this will allow a relaxed transfer to the Quest during the day.

If you are planning on going to the Nationals in 2020 please fill in the attached spreadsheet and return to me - Nicky - ncorsbie@bigpond.net.au ASAP (that means in the next week)  and I will start locking in the accommodation. You will also be required to pay a deposit to the club within the next 2 weeks and I will send you the details on deposits once you have replied.

I’m sure I can keep adding to the booking later in the year if apartments are still available and we can fill an apartment with late requests   - but of course, availability cannot be guaranteed.

Any queries or questions, please let me know.

Thanks
