On behalf of the Governors, I made an informal visit to our new wraparound facility. I arrived to the staff very busy transforming the school hall with a wide variety of books, games, toys, play dough, colouring materials, jigsaws etc. Also the staff like to put on activities on where there is more direct staff involvement, tonight it was making face masks. Additionally some children like outside play and a member of staff will take children outside ……weather permitting! All children received a friendly personal greeting from the staff when they arrived, and then seemed quite happy to relax and chat to each other.   A register was taken, they were asked to wash their hands and sit and have a drink and snack which was bagels today, after this they got on with the serious business of play!
From my visit I came away very pleased with what I had learned and observed. The children were very well behaved and the atmosphere calm and friendly with children engrossed in their play.

Governor

Thank you for your replies to my ‘walking bus’ letter.
Due to the fantastic response from Chandlers Ridge Academy I’d love to trial the scheme here, initially on a one day a week basis.
In simple terms, a walking bus is a way for children to walk to school with their friends.
Children are dropped off at a designated point and walk a safety-checked route to school with trained volunteers.
As a result I hope our children can engage in more exercise, become more aware of road safety and enjoy the journey with their friends.
But first we need volunteers!
If you would like to help kickstart start this exciting project please contact me on the details below.
We can then meet to discuss the next steps.
Very kindest regards,
Cllr Mieka Smiles.

Be a Flu Fighter

The Flu Vaccine will be given to your child in school from Reception up to Year 6 on Monday 2nd December.  This is given via a quick and simple spray up the nose.  The vaccination programme is in place to help protect your child against flu.  Flu can be a serious illness, vaccinating your child can protect them and others by preventing the spread of flu.  Please ensure you complete your consent form and hand into the school office by Monday 11th October at the latest.  No consent form will result in no vaccine given to your child.

Year 1 Teddy Bear Picnic

We would like to invite you to join us for a Teddy Bears Picnic on Tuesday 22nd October at 2:00pm in the hall.

We are looking forward to sharing what we have learnt about toys in the past. We will have the opportunity to share stories about toys and play with some examples of toys from the past. We will be making a toy and, of course, having our picnic!

We would also love to hear about your memories of toys and games you used to play as a child.

We hope you are able to come along. The children will be making sandwiches to bring to the picnic so no need to bring any.

P.S.Reminder to the children – Please bring your teddy to school on that day!

Happy 100th Birthday!

The school choir is going to sing to Mrs M on Monday afternoon next week.  Mrs M is a lady who lives in a care home in Nunthorpe.  It is her 100th birthday on Sunday and the care home have asked for as a many people as possible to send her a card to celebrate.  So we though instead of sending her a card we would go one step further and go sing for her.  The children in the choir will leave school at 1:20pm on Monday and will return before the end of the school day.  We will have our Monday rehearsal on Monday after school as usual.
