Week  19
FARMER'S MESSAGE
By Jocelyn Craig
Windmill Field Manager

The much-needed rain has arrived! It is soaking in to the Windmill Field and nourishing the remaining crops as well as the recently seeded protective blankets of grasses and legumes. Putting the field to bed is equally as important as waking her up in the Spring. The crew has been busy pulling out old vegetation, irrigation materials and plastic mulch. As a farmer, I am comforted by the cyclical rhythm of working with the land. There is often a rush to get things done before a rain but then some welcome quiet reflection. So too does the farm season have its flow and ebb.

Admittedly, on a rainy October day such as this, all I can think about is wrapping myself in a blanket and enjoying some hearty soup! This week's share is full of "soup-spiration". I'm thinking Creamy Curried Acorn Squash, Roasted Red Pepper, Black Bean and Sweet Potato, Ginger Carrot, Chicken Tortilla, Tuscan White Bean and Kale (a favorite I'm sure I've mentioned before) and more!

Cozy up, and Enjoy the Harvest!
