Celebrating Differences will be held at Lane School on Monday, October 21 and Tuesday, October 22 throughout the school day.  The goal of this program (through structured activities) is to start a dialogue of how we all learn and play differently.

To help make this event successful and memorable for all students, we need parent volunteers from each class to help during the day.  There will be detailed instructions for the volunteers for each activity.  Class schedules and volunteer information can be found by clicking on the button below.

We invite you to make a donation this school year to the BEST Appreciation Fund - you donate, and we fund activities all year! You can give to the Appreciation Fund at any time, but we hope you will consider doing it early so we can confidently plan activities for the year.

The Cognitive Neuroscience Group at the MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston is recruiting children between the ages of 8 and 12 years to participate in research studies funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Institute of Health (NIH)

Study 1
This is a longitudinal study that follows children over a period of 3 consecutive years. Our goal is to improve understanding of learning in children. The study consists of 1 in-person visit (about 2.5 hours) per year for 3 years (weekdays/weekends). During this visit, children play several games on the computer and complete several language/memory tasks. The lab visit includes safe and noninvasive EEG recording. The day after the visit, kids complete a quick follow-up task from a home/library computer. More information can be found at:
https://clinicaltrials.partners.org/study/feedback_learning

Study 2
The purpose of the study is to evaluate the learning patterns of children with typical and atypical language development. The study will involve 2 visits to the lab at the MGH Institute of Health Professions. During this visit, children play several games on the computer and complete several language/memory tasks. The lab visit includes safe and noninvasive EEG recording.  A visit will last about 3 hours. A week after the second lab visit your child will be asked to complete follow up tasks on a home computer or a mobile device. We are looking for children who were late to develop language, and who still receive services for language or learning difficulties. More information can be found at: https://rally.partners.org/study/does_your_child_stru

Payment is $60 for each in-person visit to the lab. We provide free all-day parking at the Navy Yard. Please email us at cnglead@mghihp.edu or call us at (617) 643-4821 if you are interested or if you have any questions.

Lexington / Bedford Youth Hockey

Registration is open for this season of LBYH's In-House program.
The program is for hockey players aged 5-10 years old.  1/2 ice games are Saturday mornings at Hayden rink in Lexington, in the same time block each week.  It is a great and fun way for new players to learn hockey, and advance their skills as they move towards travel hockey.  The season starts in late October and runs through early March, ending with a championship tournament and end-of-season program banquet for all the players.  Good sportsmanship, fair play, and having fun are primary objectives of the program.

Registration is also open for the "Intro to In-house/Learn to Play" clinics.   These are skills-based clinics run by LBYH coaches to help new players learn the basics of the game and develop their skills.  It is recommended any In-House players without prior skating experience also attend the clinics.  There are two sessions available.

Both programs are very popular and registrations will fill up quickly.  Registration for in-house will be closing sometime in late September, once the max number of kids are signed up.

For more details and information about the programs and to register, please go to the LBYH website and select the "Register Online" option.
