Event runs until midnight
Eagle's Nest is hosting a Round Dance in honour of MMIWG, and to bring awareness and conversation to the community. Reclaiming, Power and Place, the National Inquiry into MMIWG’s final report was released with 231 calls for justice. These calls are directed at government, institutions, social service providers, industries and all Canadians, and make it clear that ongoing action is still needed. The report calls on all Canadians to learn about and celebrate Indigenous people’s history, culture, pride and diversity. It calls on all Canadians to read the final report, to listen to truths shared and acknowledge the burden of these human and Indigenous rights violations. It calls on all Canadians to become an ally, and protect, support and promote the safety of women and girls.
We invite all Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples to stand with us and take action by joining us in dance and prayer. This particular event does not require a regalia or a certain dress code, just come as you are with good intentions and in celebration of life. We do encourage ribbon skirts and red tops for women and red shirts for men.
Volunteers are needed to hang posters up in Banff / Canmore. If anyone can help please contact Kathryn Williams KathrynW@stoney-nation.com
