I wrote this while waiting for a trained dog to show up on set so that we can make it pee on something. One day, I will get to explain to my son what I do for a living. [Update: here is the dog pee clip]

Also, I'm reading The Goldfinch and it is one of the most engrossing and expansive books I've ever read. Highly recommend. Thanks in advance for reading and enjoy the newsletter...
Resealable Cereal Bags. Okay, I know we're not solving world peace here, but almost everything comes in a resealable bag now... why not the bag inside a cereal box?

I'm sure it's a cost issue, but it feels so inconvenient not to have this exist. Whadya think?
Sex On The Moon: The Amazing Story Behind the Most Audacious Heist in History – "Creative" Nonfiction. An ex-Mormon NASA scientist steals moon rocks to make coeds like him.

Ben Mezrich has come under fire for fictionalizing non-fiction in a way that makes it pretty nearly fiction. He's the guy who wrote the book that awful Kevin Spacey vehicle 21 was based on. I've read a few of his books and they're definitely a guilty pleasure. They read like someone read a news headline, took the drug from Limitless, then cranked out a masturbatory fantasy.

Yes, they are page turners, but the factual liberties and the subtle but pervasive objectification of women through a dominant male gaze are impossible to ignore. The audiobook is narrated by Casey Affleck who is a great narrator, but... also problematic.

I would love to read a nuanced and well-researched (and fact-checked) Atlantic or New Yorker piece about the same subject matter... but skip this one and instead read the take downs of Mezrich that followed its publication. They've become my new favorite genre.

I give Sex On The Moon 1/5 Bookies.
Did you know the Nature Conservancy has a list of local events where you can directly help conserve nature as well as entry level part-time work on eco-friendly projects?

Whether you're a scuba-diving enthusiast who wants to put your skills to use saving reefs, or just a friendly person who can be a part-time greeter at a nature center, they have a lot of resources to connect you with!
It's fun to see people remix IP owned by corporations into something unique and interesting, or the same corporations trying to breathe new life into properties they've snatched up in a land grab.

Here's a Halloween-y version of FUN WITH INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY!
THE GOOD

UK-based artist Richard Wilkinson reimagines popular characters as taxonomical insect drawings you'd expect in a natural history museum. He's done Looney Toons, Star Wars, and now... movie monsters.
THE BAD

Hocus Pocus is a cult classic, and Disney loves money... so I guess that's why there is new Hocus Pocus sequel in novel form. According to a review, more than ONE THIRD of it is recapping the original movie.
THE WEIRD

Artist Keith Busher repurposes Precious Moments figurines into creepy little horror dolls he calls Precious Mutations and they are definitely unique. If you're a real horror-head, they're probably even cooler!
I'm a big fan of train travel, and keep fairly up-to-date on luxury train offerings even though I've never been able to afford one. Luckily for me, Conde Naste's Traveler went behind the scenes on the new Belmond Andean Explorer.
The three day, two night journey between Arequipa to Cusco is filled with beautiful scenery and plenty to do on board.
You can read the full article here, which includes the photos above and more by Matt Crossick for the Belmond.
