RISE

UNTO A NEW LIFE

Effective

by Pastor Drew

“It was not that our daughter kept telling us about God, it was that she kept going to church. We saw the love and knew it was the place for us,” Destiny Washington’s parents testified. It was a glorious baptism. “One of the most powerful ones I have ever seen,” reported Rev. Drew. Shawn and Yvonne took the cold plunge to a new life together. Their daughter, bright eyed as ever, smiled widely as she sat in the front row.

In the last three weeks, they have not missed a service. This couple went to the altar almost a month ago. They came forward dedicating their lives to Jesus. Day by day they are being transformed. They are the church’s newest evangelists, telling and inviting everyone in their path. God is at work in them, and it is incredible.                                Yvonne went first. Then Shawn. Rev. Drew asked if the deacon Justin Smith would assist in the baptism. “You see, a few years ago Justin and his wife Nicole had a burden to send a youth to camp. So they generously sponsored Nathan Vigil. In turn, Nathan was born again, baptized, discipled and became the youth leader whom Destiny would be led by. We are all part of today!” In the Kingdom of God, you don’t know the impact your gifts and kindness will have or the domino effect they will begin.

A Family for God

by Jael Brattrud

“Those lyrics touched” cried one youth. This past Wednesday “HUBE, the KY Kid” came and rapped for all of RCA. Fans all over the USA watched the live stream. People from Australia came to Rubidoux for this show. It was so much fun. As we all cheered and were excited, it felt as if a new energy was among us. It was God. He spoke in, and through Hube. Even though it wasn’t your average Wednesday, it was great.

I personally enjoyed how everyone worshiped and cheered together. Together we are stronger and are more effective for God. It is important for us to continue motivating and inspiring each other. Though we all have broken parts of our lives, God places us all here in a family. To learn from the wise, to protect the younger, and continue to do our part. Coming together as one big family was fun and powerful. In such a dark, gloomy, and sinful world, we need God. And this past Wednesday God was among us. I can’t wait for Hube to come back and am more excited to see him do more for my church family.

A New Generation

by Teresa Ford

It is truly a blessing working alongside this woman of God and watching her live by example as she represents today's young Christian.     Jael balances homework and ministry.  She prepares the Sunday school assignments, acts as a Sunday school teacher, works the slides for Sunday services, and keeps up with her school work as well. Jael holds a brown belt in karate, and that’s not all: Jael just won the Wolfson Challenge award for reading the whole Bible with in a six month period.                         It’s no surprise that Jael's favorite scripture is     1 Tim 4:12 "Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity."                                            This awesome woman of God does just that. She leads by example. Thank you Jael for living by example and reminding us, that with God all things are possible if we walk with him and stand on his word. You are truly an Inspiration.

EWF Was Awesome

by Frank Castle

"C'mon ref! Are you you blind?!" These, and other taunts were heard from the crowd surrounding the ring. Jesse Felix was leading a chorus of rebukes from ringside. On the other side of the parking lot, Elder Anderson hurled a blast of verbal chastisement of his own, especially when "Trailer" started talking smack about Riverside. "Take out the trailer-park trash!" Elder Chris shouted, as Trailer's opponent Richy Slade, bested him.
Of course, there was no malice intended by these two RCA leaders. It was all in fun, and we helped raise a lot of money for youth winter camp. Plus, Riverside Christian Assembly's presence has been made known in the community by the hundreds of flyers distributed in the neighborhood. We want to thank Jesse Hernandez and the EWF wrestlers and staff for bringing this event here. A special shout-out also to Nate Vigil for his cooking skills, Carol Bennett for running the store, and Sandy Foster for the 50/50 raffle. Thanks to Rob Chalfant for donating his winnings back to RCA!

Sunday Afternoon

by Josh Copple

Sunday was an unexpected surprise for me. My entire family stayed after church to attend Lary Townson’s Gun and Knife Wound Treatment Seminar. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t going into it with the best attitude, but my wife is a preparedness junkie, and I am an employee of the church, so I figured I’d better be there.                                The first few minutes while we waited were touch and go for me. I could feel my phone vibrate every time my fantasy team scored a point, but I resisted the urge to look. I just sat patiently as we waited for all of the attendees to arrive.                  Finally it began. It was a little slow at first, as Lary explained his credentials and the importance of the class, but then it happened: one of the attendees got up to excuse herself from the room when suddenly she just lost it! She whirled around with a gun, yelling “This class is bogus!” and then “BANG!” just like that, Lary was shot, he was bleeding, and none of us knew what to do.    Of course it was just a demonstration, but it was an accurate one. At any moment, in today’s world, someone could snap and shoot someone around you, or even worse, they could shoot you.  If that does happen what makes the difference between life and death, is time. Time is what this class buys you. Not knowing what to do means lost time. Freezing up, because you are scared, means lost time. In most situations like these, lost time means lost life. Just like that, I was engaged. Within moments, Nathan was up on the table being bandaged at the leg. We were learning what bandage to use, and when, and why. Where to tape, where to put pressure. It was awesome.                                                            In the end we all walked out with a certificate, and many of us purchased emergency kits, but more than that, we walked out with more knowledge than when we entered. I now know that RCA is better equipped to handle an emergency, and so am I for that matter
