Tēnā Koutou Film Bay of Plenty Community, it was great to see such a supportive creative community at our AGM held in October. It was a sad farewell to Tessa Blackett who has been an integral part of our Board for the past three years.

With the future of film looking increasingly busy in NZ we need to make sure we are film ready as it's not "if they are coming, its only a matter of time before big productions are coming". Recently we held our annual strategic hui which provided some really useful ideas on how Film Bay of Plenty can facilitate with this massive growth in film.

We are excited this month to be hosting writer Jenji Kohan, and Producer Lauren Levine in the Bay of Plenty for a familiarisation tour. Jenji will be headlining at the SPADA conference in Auckland and has written for Netflix shows such as Orange is the New Black and Weeds.

Stay involved by following our Instagram and Facebook pages and sign up to our online directory.

THANKS TESSA BLACKETT!!
AN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Last month at our AGM Tessa Blackett stepped down from our Film Bay of Plenty Board. We wanted to thank her for all of her hard work, dedication and amazing attention to detail.
Tessa has been involved from the start, working closely with Joanne Rye-McGregor (who passed away this year in July) to help create a thriving community of filmmakers in the Bay of Plenty. This community has evolved into what Film Bay of Plenty has become today., Tessa you will be missed.

Changing of the guard - an acknowledgment from Tessa Blackett

"At our recent AGM I stepped down as a Film Bay of Plenty trustee, and in July 2019 Joanne Rye-McGregor passed away - the vibrant woman who started this whole ball rolling. So even though I’ll still be around and helping out, for me this feels a little like the end of an era, completing the handing over to the new guard. I thought this might be an appropriate time to reflect on where we’ve come from and acknowledge the enormous amount of effort put in by many people to make Film Bay of Plenty what it is today."

THANKS FOR COMING TO OUR AGM

Thanks, everyone for coming along to our AGM on the 15th October at the Tauranga Art Gallery. It was great to see so many people excited about film and the benefits it can bring to the Bay of Plenty.

Waiariki Studio was a hot topic and CEO Anton Steel has been working hard to get that to come to fruition. It will be exciting to see what the next chapter brings.

The groundbreaking virtual reality show "Terminus" was incredible and quite mindblowing. Thanks, Tauranga Art Gallery for hosting us in such a great venue, GoodBuzz, Volcanic Hills Winery and The Island Brewery for the lovely beverages.

POWER GENDER AND NEW STORY STRUCTURES WITH STEPHEN CLEARY

Script-to-Screen are excited to be bringing script guru Stephen Cleary to New Zealand to present a brilliant 2-day workshop in Auckland and Wellington.

Split into single-gender groups, people tell stories differently. Men often tell stories with all-male characters. Women rarely tell stories with all-female characters. Women together tend to maintain a theme across their stories. Men don’t. Women talk less. Men reveal less about themselves.
