COLLECT FOR THANKSGIVING
O MOST merciful Father, we humbly thank thee for all thy gifts so freely bestowed upon us; for life and health and safety; for power to work and leisure to rest; for all that is beautiful in creation and in the lives of men; but above all we thank thee for our spiritual mercies in Christ Jesus our Lord; who with thee and the Holy Spirit liveth and reigneth, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
READINGS: Deuteronomy 8.6 and St. Luke 17.11
What we leave behind
In last week’s sermon, Rev’d Rob talked about our legacy as Christians, and our legacy as parishioners of St. Olave’s. To see the Legacy Giving document to which he referred, click here. Hard copies of the informational piece are available in the Narthex.

Curate’s Corner

As Thanksgiving approaches and we’re all encouraged to look back on the blessings of the past year, I can’t help but note that, for me, being made a deacon and being given the opportunity to serve here at St. Olave’s is more than one among a series of gifts from God. It’s more like a milestone on a journey that’s all about gratitude. The vocation – that call from God – to the Christian life takes different forms for different people, but for all of us, it’s a call to order our lives around a real and profound gratitude in such a way that this gratitude becomes the basis of everything we do.

This is why I love that we all say the General Thanksgiving together at the end of Morning Prayer, asking God to give us “unfeignedly thankful” hearts, such that we show forth his praise “not only with our lips, but in our lives.” This prayer is a beautiful expression of how our inward and intimate relationship with the God who gives us life finds its natural expression in a life of gratitude and generosity.

I’m thankful God has placed me here to walk this stretch of that journey with you.

Alexandra

Let us give thanks.
Last week you should have received Rev’d Rob’s pastoral Thanksgiving letter in the mail. If you did not, you can read it here. If you are unable to drop your Thanksgiving offering into the collection plate, you can also give online here and scroll down to the yellow “donate” button.
