Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework
To support contractors engage with the new Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework we will be sending a weekly communication every Friday to highlight key milestones and activities. With the amount of activity needed over the next few months there will also be some crossover between activities with Pharmacy Quality Scheme (PQS) and a focus on Primary Care Networks.

NMS AND MUR QUARTERLY REPORTS
Please remember that NMS and MUR quarterly reports are due within 10 working days of the end of September i.e. by 14 October. Reporting is via the NHSBSA website where further information can also be accessed.
SSPs issued for Fluoxetine: Urgent actions required by pharmacy teams
In response to significant ongoing disruption to the supply of Fluoxetine capsules, the first Serious Shortage Protocols (SSPs) have been issued by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).
Three SSPs have been authorised by the Secretary of State to help manage the supply of some formulations of Fluoxetine and to try to ensure that fewer patients have to return to their prescriber. Developed by clinicians, the protocols provide pharmacists with procedures to follow in providing a suitable alternative product. Pharmacist must also exercise their professional judgement to ensure the alternative product is suitable for the patient.

PQS: Consider if you could be a Pharmacy PCN Lead
PSNC has published a Briefing to support community pharmacy contractors and LPCs on working together to enable contractors to meet the Primary Care Networks (PCN) domain of the Pharmacy Quality Scheme (PQS).
The PCN domain requires contractors to be able to demonstrate that their pharmacy, and all of the other pharmacies within the PCN footprint who wish to engage with a PCN, have agreed a collaborative approach to engaging with their PCN. This approach must include agreement on a single channel of communication by appointing a named lead representative (Pharmacy PCN Lead) for all of the community pharmacies who wish to engage with their PCN in the PCN footprint.
The LPC are hosting a series of PCN events across Manchester where there will be the opportunity to elect the PCN Lead for your area, so make sure you are booked to attend.
Health Champion Training – Tomorrow - 10th & 11th October 2019
This two-day course enables pharmacy staff to become qualified Health Champions for Healthy Living Pharmacy Level 1. Attendees who successfully complete both days and the short assessment at the end will receive a nationally-recognised Royal Society for Public Health Level 2 qualification in Understanding Health Improvement. Class 4 MHRA drug alert – Emerade 150, 300 and 500 microgram pre-filled syringe
The Medicines and Health products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has issued a class 4 pharmacy level caution in use for:
Emerade 150 micrograms solution for injection in pre-filled syringe – PL 33616/0013
Emerade 300 micrograms solution for injection in pre-filled syringe – PL 33616/0014
Emerade 500 micrograms solution for injection in pre-filled syringe – PL 33616/0015
The MHRA has notified Bausch and Lomb UK Limited of reports that Emerade pens have failed to activate. This is not related to the risk of needle blockage reported in the previous drug alert. The activation failures have not been traced to particular batches. Bausch and Lomb UK Limited are conducting a thorough investigation to identify the reason. Following discussions with alternative adrenaline auto-injector suppliers there are currently sufficient supplies available to meet historic demand. However, there are insufficient surplus devices to replace all the Emerade pens that would need to be recalled. Therefore, at present, the MHRA is advising that Emerade devices should not be recalled.
Healthcare Professionals are urged to share this information with patients and carers who have been prescribed an Emerade pen, to reinforce the advice to always carry two in-date adrenaline autoinjectors with them at all times. This advice is provided in the approved patient information leaflet for Emerade, which should be provided to the patient or caregiver at dispensing.

Salford and Trafford: GMMH Drug Services
By October 14th 2019 Drug Services in Salford and Trafford will have moved on to a new prescribing system so prescriptions may look slightly different. Ad-hoc prescriptions will start to appear in pharmacies over the coming weeks with the bulk of the changes being seen from November 8th.
Stockport: Active Ageing
Active Ageing is a new programme and campaign aimed at helping individuals aged 55+ who have experienced a significant life event by supporting them to become more physically active as part of a healthy lifestyle. They are looking to work more closely with Pharmacies to engage with patients who could benefit from access to this programme. GMLPC's Primary Care Locality Events
The Primary Care Networks (PCNs) domain of the Pharmacy Quality Scheme (PQS) is worth
- 22.5 points and has a value of between £1,440 – £2,880 for a Pharmacy PCN lead; or
- 12.5 points and has a value of between £800 – £1,600 for a non-Pharmacy PCN lead.
To support contractors to meet this criteria the LPC are running engagement events across Greater Manchester.
Attending the event will provide you with all the information that you need to meet PQS. We will share with you the details of other contractors in your PCN, the agreed communication channel for your PCN, the collaborative approach being taken and will support contractors to appoint a PCN Lead.
Please note, you must only book on to the locality event that is relevant to the one you WORK in.

What’s new in BNF78? An event for pre-registration pharmacists
This free event looks at the new recommendations and information in the BNF. The aim of this event is to enable pre-registration pharmacists to identify how new recommendations and information in the BNF will affect clinical practice. During the event pre-registration colleagues from in hospital and community practice will work together on a series of case studies and to start to build a professional network.
The event is on Wednesday 6th November 2019 at The Hough End Centre, Chorlton, Manchester. Food is available from 7pm, event runs 7.30pm to at 9pm.
