Dear Blue Mountain Resort Jozo Weider (BMRJW) Race Families,
October is upon us, and it does feel as if winter is upon us, so I wanted to reach out to the entire community to say hello and welcome back. It will be another fantastic winter on and off the hill this season, so I wanted to bring everyone up to speed.
Dryland Training
Dryland training for the race program commenced on Saturday September 9, 2019 and will continue until Saturday November 9, 2019. It runs from 9:00am – 12:00pm each Saturday and the coaches meet the athletes at the Blue Mountain Gazebo at South Base Lodge. This season we have the following coaches facilitating dryland on any given weekend: Glenn, Rick, Sean, Kristina and Harland.
Our objectives with dryland are to promote fitness in the sport of alpine ski racing at all ages, provide athletes with an expectation and model of training for the pre-season, fun and the love of sport, and preparation for Alpine Ontario’s fitness test.
Alpine Ontario (AOA) will be hosting their fitness testing sessions for U12, U14, U16 and U19 athletes on Saturday October 19 and Sunday October 20 at the Toronto Track and Field Centre at York University.
To complement the schedule of Alpine Ontario, the Blue Mountain Jozo Weider Race Program will be hosting our own Fitness Testing session on Saturday October 26, 2019 at Blue Mountain. Please sign up as early as possible, so that we may plan accordingly, and the session could fill up quickly based on last year’s turn out.
To register for dryland training, you must do so over the phone by calling Blue Mountain at 1-833-583-BLUE or 705-445-0231 and speak with a Guest Services representative.
Please note that there is no dryland training the weekend of Thanksgiving (October 12, 2019).
Pre-Season High Performance Training Camp in Banff, Alberta
New this season, Blue Mountain Jozo Weider will be facilitating a pre-season training camp in Banff, Alberta. We will be skiing and training at Banff Sunshine Village, Lake Louise Ski Resort and Mt. Norquay. Once the SkiBig3 resorts begin to accumulate snow, and lane training schedules becomes available, we will be able to confirm which ski resorts on which days. The program will be available to U14 and U16 athletes.
Training Dates: The program is set to run: November 21 to December 1, 2019.
On-Hill Training Hours: The day will begin at approximately 8:00am and will run until at least 3:00pm. Once the winter hours for the resorts are posted, we will have more information on program meet and end times.
Lane Space: We will schedule and coordinate lane space for the athletes during this camp. We will have equipment for training. We won’t know which days for lane space until we get closer to start of winter around November.
This camp will coincide with the Men’s World Cup Downhill and Super-G at Lake Louise, so it is a perfect opportunity to train around world-class alpine ski racers and watch them compete on the world stage.
To register for the Banff Camp, you can do so by calling Blue Mountain at 705-445-0231. The cost for the camp (coaching only) is $1849.00. A parent or guardian must attend the camp to supervise and care for their children/athletes off snow. If a family is attending the camp with a U14 or U16 athlete and has an athlete in the U12 division, the resort and coaches will consider including that athlete in the training camp if it is appropriate.
