Over the last 15 years, our community has had great success with Sleep Cheap Charities Reap, raising over $2 million for local charities! Open exclusively to residents of the Niagara Region, the 16th annual event runs for 5 days from Sunday, November 10 to Thursday, November 14, 2019. Reservation desks are now open! Fire Prevention Week: Not Every Hero Wears A Cape
It's National Fire Prevention Week from October 6th to 12th with this years' theme being "Not Every Hero Wears A Cape". The Niagara Falls Fire Department is educating everyone about the small but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe. If there is a fire in your home, you may have as little as one to two minutes to safely escape. Escape planning and practice can help you make the most of the time you have, giving everyone enough time to get out. Plan ahead for your escape. Harvest Hoopla at the Farmers' Market:

Celebrate the Harvest at the Niagara Falls Farmers' Market, Saturday, October 12th, from 7am-1pm. Bring the kids and enjoy the bounty of the season; corn, pumpkins, cabbage, tomatoes, potatoes, apples, pears and so much more! The Market is located at 5943 Sylvia Place, Niagara Falls behind the Niagara Falls History Museum near the corner of Main and Ferry.

The Harvest hoopla will feature a bouncy castle, face painting and all proceeds from pumpkin sales (donated by DeVries Fruit Farm) will go to Niagara Nutrition Partners. Niagara Nutrition Partners is a Region-wide initiative providing coordinated nutrition programs in elementary and secondary schools.

Residential Water Meter Replacement Program
Open House: October 16, 2019
The City is replacing all residential water meters throughout Niagara Falls. The Residential Water Meter Replacement program will ensure the continued accuracy of customers' water bills and improve reading efficiencies. Neptune Technology Group has been contracted by the City to upgrade all residential water meters over the next two years, neigbourhood by neighbourhood. Homeowners will receive correspondence from the Neptune Technology Group when they are heading to your area and will need to respond by booking a water meter replacement appointment at a time convenient for you. Installation of the new water meter is free.

The City will be hosting an open house on October 16th, 2019, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Gale Centre in the Memorial Room. Residents are encouraged to attend to learn more about the Water Meter Replacement Program and to ask questions. View more information.

TD Green Space Tree Planting at Firemen's Park
Friday, October 18, 2019
The Park in the City Committee received a $25,000 grant from TD Green Space through the Arbor Day Foundation to help replenish park setting areas with shade trees. 60 native trees and 500 pollinator flowers will be planted at Firemen’s Park in celebration of the grant that enhanced the urban forest in our community. A number of the trees have already been planted at 6 various parks that were recently renovated with new playground equipment.

The City is looking for volunteers to help plant the trees and pollinator flowers, on Friday, October 18, 2019 starting at 10:00 am. Waste Reduction Week Activities 
October 21- 27, 2019
The Niagara Region has week-long activities planned in support of Waste Reduction Week, occuring October 21 - 27, 2019. Waste Reduction Week is a national environmental campaign which builds awareness around sustainable and responsible consumption, and promotes actions to divert more waste from disposal and conserve natural resources. The Region will be offering free public tours, hosting an information booth and holding a contest to inform residents about the importance of waste reduction. Tours are free of charge; however, reservations are required to participate in the tours and space is limited. For more information, visit niagararegion.ca

Original Art created for Lundy's Lane utility boxes
The winner of the Niagara Falls Utility Box Art Program is local artist Sonia Wilkinson. Her original artwork has been wrapped in vinyl on 11 utility boxes along Lundy's Lane from Garner Road to Montrose Road.

Born in Galt, Ontario, Sonia Wilkinson is an artist now living in Niagara Falls. With the use of acrylic paint and working through a design process, Wilkinson recreates the human face in unusual ways using distorted, textured and colourful lines and shapes.

The Utility Box Artwork Program is the first of many installments of artwork on Lundy’s Lane, as the City and Lundy's Lane BIA commence the first phase of the Lundy’s Lane Streetscape Masterplan from Garner Rd to Montrose Rd. An official unveiling of the Utility Box Artwork Program will be held on Wednesday October 16th at 4pm at Lundy’s Lane at Kalar on the Southwest corner at Kalar. Parking is available adjacent in the FreshCo parking lot. View more information including an artist statement by Sonia Wilkinson.

Niagara Falls Santa Claus Parade
Ho! Ho! Ho! It’s that time of year and Santa’s elves are busy preparing for the Niagara Falls Santa Claus Parade! This year's Santa Claus Parade will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 11 am in Downtown Niagara Falls.

We need a small army of volunteer elves! Sign up online at niagarafalls.ca/santa An important volunteer meeting will be held on November 13, 2019 at 5:00 pm, at the MacBain Community Centre. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Local businesses also have the chance to get their businesses recognized in front of more than 12,000 people attending the parade. Niagara Falls Municipal Offices will be closed on Monday, October 14, 2019 for Thanksgiving. Niagara Falls Transit will be running a holiday schedule. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, October 15, 2019.

Seniors 65+  ride Niagara Falls Transit for free
From September 1 - November 30, seniors, 65 years and older, are able to ride Niagara Falls Transit, including WEGO Red & Blue Lines and Chair-A-Van* services (for registered clients only) for free. In order for seniors to take advantage of this exciting opportunity, a promotional Seniors i-Ride card will need to be picked up at a participating City facility. Proof of Niagara Falls residency and photo identification are required. View more information.
Montrose Road Closure:
Construction on Montrose Road from the north driveway entrance of the MacBain Community Centre to Kinsmen Court is expected to last until October 31, 2019, weather permitting. Businesses and residents will have access during the closure but may be directed to take an alternate route to get to their destination. Businesses will remain open at all times.
