Professional Staff Development series continues with Green Zone Training Oct. 11

Join us for our next Professional Development session: Green Zone Training.

Presented by Eric Buetikofer, Director of Military and Veteran Affairs, Green Zone training provides a broad understanding of issues potentially facing our student service members, veterans and their families. Furthermore the intent is to help equip with you a knowledge base of various support services and resources on campus or throughout the community that assist this student population in their transition from military service to the classroom and beyond. We each can make a difference.

The UToledo Professional Staff Council would like to invite staff vendors to participate in our Holiday Bazaar, to be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Ingman Room of the Student Union on UToledo’s Main Campus. Setup will take place from 8-10 a.m.

The non-refundable registration fee is $25 and includes one 8-foot. table and two chairs. Vendors are required to provide their own table covers. Additional tables are available for an additional $25 fee. Space is limited and on a first come, first served basis, so reserve your booth using the online marketplace today! Vendors include Paparazzi, Tupperware, Firenation Glass, handmade gifts and crafts. 

All table proceeds will benefit the PSA Endowed Scholarship Fund and Progress Fund. Vendors are encouraged to donate product for a silent auction to be held in the spring. The auction benefits the Endowed Scholarship Fund.

UToledo alumni, faculty and staff members, students, and friends will come together Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 15 and 16, to support the University’s third annual Day of Giving. The 36-hour campaign, “Rocket Forward: You Launch Lives,” will begin at midnight Oct. 15 and end at noon Oct. 16.

BUT the campaign is open now to accept your donations! Click Give Now and type “professional staff” in the designation box to give to one of our funds. Remember, your membership in the Professional Staff Association is FREE!, so please consider donating to the PSA Progress Fund to help us continue monthly professional development programming and our annual membership meeting luncheon.

Participation is an important goal for Day of Giving, which aims to encourage as many people as possible to support the University. Gift matches and gift challenges are ideal options for making a donation because they double the investment and double the impact. Challenges and matches will be posted on the rocketforward.utoledo.edu website throughout the campaign.

Last year, the campaign raised $717,375 from 3,156 donors — including many students and first-time supporters.

This new program will award and recognize employees’ ideas that make an impact in either promoting student success through increasing graduation, retention or enrollment; or increased efficiency, process improvements or cost savings/avoidance.

Gaber told UToledo News. “Building on that effort, I am proud to announce UToledo’s Good Idea Initiative, an opportunity for employees to suggest their creative ideas and innovations that will make UToledo more student-centered and more resourceful.

Ideas can be submitted on the Good Idea Initiative website through Friday, Oct. 18.

• New – effective immediately, call 911 for on-campus emergencies (e.g. medical emergencies or crimes in progress).

• UT Alert emergency notifications will now be displayed as a pop-up message on devices connected to UToledo’s network and on new Cisco phone screens.    

Open enrollment for all benefits-eligible employees will be held through Thursday, Oct. 31. Because the University strives to offer a variety of benefits to meet the needs of a widely diverse workforce, several changes are being made for 2020.

Medical/prescription drug and dental premiums will not increase for most employees. There will be a nominal increase for AFSCME bargaining unit employees to more closely align their rates with those of other employees. Additionally, there is a small increase (3.4%) in premiums for employees choosing vision coverage.

Other 2020 benefits changes include: preventive services to be provided at no cost (such as screening mammograms and certain vaccinations), the Gold plan no longer being available, and the Blue consumer-driven health plan (CDHP) moving from Medical Mutual of Ohio to Paramount.

UTMC’s outpatient clinics recently moved to the newly renovated UToledo Comprehensive Care Center (CCC), formerly Glendale Medical East, 3333 Glendale Ave. The CCC offers easy access and convenience to a variety of healthcare services, making it possible for you to manage your health in one convenient location.

I just recently celebrated my second anniversary with UToledo. I began as an Assistant Director in the Engineering Career Development Center and now serve as the Director of The Shah Center for Engineering Career Development.
 

My job is to support student success through our mandatory co-op program. My job includes developing employer relations, supporting student career development, collaboration with local and state government, serving on regional and national boards, co-teaching professional development courses, and collaborating with my amazing team on student initiatives and programs.
 

We have the best team of faculty and staff that truly appreciate and value research, diversity, experiential learning, and student identity development. We support each other to develop the leaders of tomorrow in extraordinary ways.
