Norma Nelson: Committed to Service

“By the end of third grade, two-thirds of children in Dallas County are reading below grade level.” 

Norma Nelson (ACE 10, Dallas) wants to change that statistic, and her work with Readers 2 Leaders is helping hundreds of students each year accelerate their reading growth. It also earned her one of this year's 2019 Scott C. Malpass Founders Prizes.

An Intersection of Acronyms: One Student's Experience with ACE, AICSN, and ESS

Like many students at the University of Notre Dame, acronyms have been a big part of Collin Gortner's educational experience. 

Before coming to Notre Dame, this ACE Intern and future member of ACE 27 had not heard of any of these programs (let alone their acronyms) and never would have guessed that they would become so meaningful during his time on campus.

Anthony Holter (ACE 7, Charlotte), the executive director of Empower Illinois, believes that education has the power to change people's lives for the better.

That belief has taken him across the country from Minnesota to North Carolina to Seattle and now to Chicago, but he was able to come back home to Notre Dame to receive the 2019 Scott C. Malpass Founders Prize.
