Join us at the SKCA meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, October 14, in the front building of the South Patrol Police Campus, 9701 Marion Park Dr.

Cerner Corporation’s plans for commercial development including two hotels, multifamily housing and retail uses on a 30-acre site north of Bannister Rd. and east of I-435 at the entrance to its Innovations Campus will be explained by Tara Murrell, lead construction project manager, corporate facilities development.

The site appears ideal for retail development due to Cerner’s rapidly growing on-site workforce and the high traffic volume that passes the site daily.  I-435 has a daily traffic count of approximately 87,000 vehicles, and Bannister Rd. has a count of about 34,000 vehicles.

Merrell also will discuss progress on the two office towers now under construction at the campus which are expected to be completed at different times in 2020.  The new towers and already occupied buildings are expected to accommodate about 7,300 Cerner employees on the campus.

Additionally, she will explain Cerner’s long-range master plan for the campus.

Teresa (Terry) Rynard, director of the City Parks & Recreation Department, will explain four issues that will be Questions 1-4 on the November 5 ballot in KCMO to authorize removing land from the city’s park system.
  • Question 1 would authorize removing approximately 36 acres from Hodge Park off Northeast Shoal Creek Parkway for use as a public school.
  • Question 2 would authorize removing approximately 15.46 acres known as Belvidere Park north of Independence Ave. between Tracy and the Paseo Expressway determined by the Park Board to be no longer necessary or appropriate for park, parkway or boulevard use.
  • Question 3 would authorize removing approximately 1.67 acres of Van Brunt Blvd. right of way between Brighton and Hardesty for use as a public school.
  • Question 4 would authorize removing approximately .9 acre at 4114 E. 7th St. determined by the Park Board to be no longer necessary or appropriate for park, parkway or boulevard use.
City Public Works Department staff will present an update on progress on repairing or replacing deteriorated sidewalks throughout the city at no cost to adjoining property owners.

This work is funded through $800 million in general obligation bonds approved by city voters in April 2017 for improvements to bridges, sidewalks and streets; flood control projects; and a new animal shelter and improvements to other city buildings and facilities that will take place over 20 years.

$150 million out of the $800 million was designated for sidewalk replacement and repairs.

Staff also will share information about where property owners can find out more information about the sidewalk program, listen to peoples’ comments and answer questions.

The presenters will be Maggie Green, public information officer for the department; Kerry Kanatzar, assistant city engineer; and Uday Manepalli, sidewalk program manager.
