Secondary Progress Reports

Semester 1, 2019

Dear Secondary Parents,

We look forward to seeing you next week during our Parent-Student-Teacher conferences. As many of you continue to sign up for a session, it is important to remember that you select a time when your son or daughter will join you.  The progress report is a time to reflect on what has been accomplished and what areas of growth to work toward the end of the semester.

Progress reports have just been released and are available for both parents and students to view on our Gecko Portal; we support our environment so hard copies are not sent out.

Please remember they are only progress reports and in most classes, students have only been assessed on a small number of standards. Therefore you will see N/A - not applicable for any standard they are yet to be assessed on.  You will also notice that we have started to report on Approaches to Learning.  These are five skill areas - Communication, Self-Management, Social, Research, and Thinking skills.  All are important skills for students to grasp to allow them to be successful in their futures.  As these are new this year we have not fully reported on then yet and will do that in the next report.

To access reports please visit the Gecko Portal using this LINK and use your username and password.  After logging in, you can find the reports at the area highlighted in the below picture.

If you cannot remember your username or password use the "reset password" link below the Login button.

If you are still experiencing problems accessing Gecko Portal please contact our IT helpdesk on helpdesk@sis.org.cn.

The reports are a great place to start your Parent, Student, Teacher Conference conversation next week with the individual teacher.

For grades 6 - 9 we have recently completed our Fall MAP tests.  The growth reports for your child will be given to you at the end of your conference time with your child's Humanities teacher.  Mathematics teachers will have a digital copy of the growth report to share with you, as well. MAP testing is a valuable tool, as an external measurement of student progress, and the teachers will be able to start a goal-setting and growth conversation, in relation to how they are doing in their classes.  It is important to remember that classroom assessment far outweighs the importance of MAP results, but it is still a useful way to track the skill-based progress of our students.

Important Reminder:  Please bring your letters for Week Without Walls, to the front desk, during Parent, Student, Teacher conferences.  Remember to include your son/daughter's name and grade level, on the front of the envelope.

All the best

Craig Ortner (HS Assistant Principal)
Nathan Lill (MS Assistant Principal)
Phil Rogers (Secondary Principal)
