he said... she said...

I am a Downtown Abbey fan.

Brian is not.

(to be fair, he might be if he watched an episode, but he skipped that binge marathon I unexpectedly got sucked into and now it’s too late for him to catch up in time for the new film)

Here’s the thing. We love watching movies together – so much, that we created a game around it. Here’s how it works:

One person will come up with 4 movies to choose from. The other will cross out one title, the first person will cross out another title, leaving the final discerning decision to the person who did not choose the original 4 titles.

It sounds fairly equitable. However, over time we have each found a way to rig the game.

Most of the time, we come to agreement. But when we don’t, it’s because Brian overloads the titles with Bollywood and violent action movies (an awesome paradox…), while I stack the deck with movies that feature older British actresses (Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Helen Mirren, Emma Thompson, Vanessa Redgrave…)

(Why wouldn’t I?? These women are fearless. Unabashed. Mouthy. Gorgeous. Intelligent. Graceful. Articulate. Filled with dignity and integrity and feminine iron clad strength.)

I think it’s fair to say his movies are usually more fun, while mine always have better actors… even though they may occasionally indulge in the interminable tension-filled silences Brian alluded to years before I met him, when he wrote this arguably true story…

always in motion,

fia

P.S. (Brian wrote this in my dialect...)  'jane austen action figures' is a drawing from Brian's book Theories of Everything. If you haven't picked up a copy of it, I'm still keeping it on sale despite his irrational belief that we can always just pop them in the truck next time we move. Not. On. My. Watch. thoughts for the week...

There is so much going on in the world lately & it bounces seemingly with no rhyme or reason from the utmost care & humility to the most senseless violence & every  place in between. See Fia's take on how to hold that in her essay this week: room for it all...
